Just rented this last night. I could not believe in any one giving this the best picture of the year. In Hollywood they must all be dumb and dumber. First of all the sound track is terrible it blows you out of your seat and turns so low you can't hear anything, the picture quality is very poor for blu-ray. Believe me I don't know what all the hype is about, this is just another cheappy movie (B)grade. Give me a Transporter 3 or James bond movie any day.

I thought it was a good movie , but the audio track was jacked up! When a plane & helicopter flew over I had flash backs of Afghanistan.....& some of the dialog at the beginning (& through out ) was so low my wife & I look at each other like "what did he say?".

This was a solid movie, I really enjoyed it especially the soundtrack. Not for everyone though so I wouldn't recommend a blind buy.

ok movie

i'll buy it when it drops in price. Not worthy of 8 oscars (in perspective, Stanely Kubrick only got 7 in his entire career... stupid academy)

i need to know if anyone else is seeing this; i find the picture quality is plagued by grain that almost has a digital noise type of quality to it.

i also can notice large amounts of grain in certain scenes that appear red and completely unatural...what's the deal here? anyone else?

Grain is one thing and I have no problem with that but I asked in an earlier thread if folks are detecting digital noise. No reply so far but I know where you are coming from.

Other forums seem to discuss more with the PQ on some titles much more so than here so I may check with those when I get the chance.

Slumdog Millionaire was shot with a mixture of film and video cameras so what you are seeing is the digital video nose of the original production.

I caved and bought the blu-ray. I wasn't overly impressed with the movie in the theater, but I loved it the second time at home. Good purchase!

Didn't see any deleted scenes or the other special features indicated on the packaging. Could it be because my player, a Panasonic DMP-BD30 isn't advanced enough? I have installed the firmware upgrades up to version 2.5

Anyone else not able to access the special features such as deleted scenes?
I agree with you even though I don't speak Hindi I thought the young actors were very believable!

I was able to watch the special features on Slumdog Millionaire Blu-ray on my PS3 firmware version 2.70 with no problems. It could possibly be your player. I hope you'd be able to watch it because it's worth it!

I didn't like the AQ here. I don't like audio that gets way too loud from regular audio levels (dialogue). Too many times the music and sound effects were leveled way too loud.
However, it didn't detract from the overall experience, but calling this film the best AQ on blu is grossly exaggerated, imo.

Think I'm going to try it just with my display's speakers. Cause when I previewed it and took a peek earlier this week, I didn't have issues with dialogue or sound and it was directly connected to a display. I'm just more curious than anything else. This gets no better than 3.5 for sound quality IMHO using my AVR.

I was able to view the special features. I just found it a little more difficult to navigate to them compared to some other disks. Is it me or does the actor who played the older Salim look like a darker version of a young Donny Osmond? Oddly enough they don't even have him in the actor credits over at IMDB. As stated in my previous post, I think Slumdog is a very good movie. The dance at the end though is kind of strange. Given how gritty some of the scenes in Mumbai and elsewhere were, a dance number seems to be a bit out of place but I quess its Danny Boyle's nod to Bollywood.

Why was this in the Best Picture category when it's a foreign film?!,there IS a best foreign film category, not a bad film be any means, but Boyle's Trainspotting was a better film in my opinion! wont buy this until it's like 10 bucks on sale! Im sure the state of the economy with a poor person winning on a gameshow had something to do with the pouplarity of the film,it fits the times! There was also a children's movie released during the summer about the great depressionright before the economic crisis began, but I cant remember the title,it didnt do very well. Like I said the movie, fits the current times!

Great film! I was afraid I'd be disappointed after all the hype, but it definitely deserved its Oscar haul. The surround sound absolutely rocks! I personally thought the dialogue and music were well balanced. This is the third Danny Boyle film I've seen (after Sunshine and 28 Days Later) and I've definitely come to like his cinematic style.

The actual name of the award is "Best Foreign Language Film", so the differentiator is whether or not the dialogue is predominantly in English, not whether it's produced outside the U.S.

+1. I just saw this movie for the first time tonight. The sound of this BD was great, especially with all the train noises and music. Great movie overall. Extremely pleasantly surprised.
