PS3 DVD player multi region

Is it possible to make the DVD of PS3 as multi region, similar to what can be done for laptops(making it region free).

i am two minds whether to buy a PS3 or Sony Blue ray player,

No, the PS3 has not been hacked for multi-region dvd playback. You might want to look into this BD player:

Clark Kent is correct AFAIK.
If you really want a SONY BD-player, you need to find a modified one, or modify it yourself with a Mod-kit, both available from many companies nowadays; for instance from www.BluRayMods.com (or their distributors), www.JVBDigital.com, and others.
