Default Looking For A Multi-Region Player

Do these even exist? I'm looking for one that can possibly play all of it's three regions. I've tried searching but can't find anything really solid. Most of the blu-rays movies I wanna get are from Hong Kong, China, Korea, Japan and Thailand.

By the way if there is a multi-region player out there and I buy a foreign blu-ray movie for it. Will the menu be in it's native language and will there at least be an option for english subtitles?

I'm also looking for multi region. But all currently avalable BluRay players are not for me.

I need:
DivX
DVD - all regions (PAL/NTSC)
BluRay - all regions

My movie collection is handreds of DivX, couple DVD (1 region), several DVD (2 region) and several DVD (5 region).

Considering building HTPC.

That thread you mentioned said "* It is not currently possible to Enable Blu-ray Region Free or a Combination of Region A, B and C." for that player. So basically there really are no multi-region players out there, they have to be remote hacked. When do you think there actually be a real multi-region player on the market? Or are there other ones that are capable of switching between all three regions?

I'll bet that the Oppo blu-ray player BDP-83 will be region free, or switchable using a code just like their DVD players.

Oppo has stated that their upcoming player will be Region A locked for blu-ray and Region 1 locked for DVD. Sadness. Hopefully someone will find a hack for it once it hits the streets. Here is a thread on AVS ranting about the region locking.

I performed a quick search on the internet and found this company. It seems that there is some advanced soldering involved (or they can do it for much more £££). Something I might consider once the warranty has run out on my current machine.

Link: http://www.multiregionupgrades.com/bluray.htm

I have also considered another option, buying a region A player on import. It's not that much more expensive, more kit in the rack, but hey.....

Hope this helps this discussion.

Edit: Spotted this on another thread.

Most region-free BD-players (or Mod-kits) come from Sweden:
www.BluRayMods.com
(yes, they ship internationally and quite affordable IMHO)

No, it will stay region-free. This is because this in not a software-modification, but a hardware-modification.

By the way, currently, only the modified Panasonic BD35/BD55 is capable of playing ALL region DVD's and ALL region BD's.

Yes, no problem. And yes, like the website (www.BluRayMods.com) mentions, the DVD-region will switch automatically, and you can manually switch the Blu-ray-zone with your remote from A to B or C, and visa-versa. I don't know which button you have to push on your remote, but if you really want to know, you can always send them an email of course.

Well, they don't tell you that, because in many cases you don't. Almost all projectors are multi-format and many plasma's and lcd's as well. If your PJ/TV is multiformat, you don't need a converter. Also, even if you do not have a multiformat TV, many of them accept not only the regular NTSC-60Hz signal, but also a 'modified' NTSC-50Hz signal (which is basically the NTSC version of the PAL-50Hz signal). In this case, you most likely don't need a converter either.

If you are interested in a multi-region DVD-player or BD-player, chances are that you are also interested in a multi-format display. Just my $0.02, of course...
