Default Question for people who have 50+ Blu-rays

First let me say that I love Blu-ray
...but some of you seem like you'll buy any movie with Blu-ray at the top

do you buy the movies to collect them?
Or do you really just love movies that much?

I watch alot of movies and some seem worth 20 or more dollars
But there is also a ton of crap movies around that I wouldn't buy no matter how crystral clear it looks.

Anyway, just a question.

I'm only a few away from 50. I buy movies because I like to collect them. I had 100's of dvd's and I sold them for a ps3. Now I have a blu-ray player and its time to get a few 100 blu-rays.

I buy only movies I like. I have around 63 Blu-rays and 2 more on Preorder. $22 is the most I spent on a single Blu-ray, not counting Planet Earth and Smallville Season 6

Between Coming soon and what's currently out there’s probably another 20-30 Blu-rays I want to buy. I agree there's also a lot of Blu-ray I don't care for and I don't want to buy but remember everyone's different so just because you don't like something doesn't mean everyone's not going to like also.

I have 71 Blu-rays...and I only bought the movies I enjoy...

The only Blu-ray I didn't buy for movie was "Into the Blue" I bought this flick just to watch jessica alba!

Blu-ray actually brought back my love for Cinema...I actually ended up buying about 20 other SD DVD's to watch as well, with the PS3 Upscaling and my HD DLP Projector!

WOw...I love Blu-ray Soooo Much!!

Go Blu-ray!

I have 62 Blu ray movies and all of them were because I really wanted the movie and enjoy them. I will agree that many on here seem to be more into if it's on Blu I'm buying it. How many times have you heard someone on here say I know the movie is horrible, but man it sure looks great. I myself would never buy a movie no matter how good it looked if I didn't actually like the movie itself.
While everyone here has different preferences so there are plenty of us who have "bad" movies in our collections as far as the general consensus goes, it's the ones who themselves buy crap for the sake of having it that I question. Why do I have the feeling that many of the guys here with massive collections would pick up Catwoman if it came to Blu ray and solely for the label.

I have a bit more than 55 movies. I only try to buy the films I like or that I'd like to see -- although I also happen to own a few turkeys I bought in a moment of weakness.

Ever since I switched to Blu-ray, I barely bought 2 or 3 DVDs. I still watch some of them, but quite frankly they're no longer in the same league. Going back to SD is quite tough.

I've mostly bought new releases, but I have double-dipped on quite a few titles (AVP, BHD, Ice Age 2, LXG, Underworld Evolution, X3...). I'm actually trying to find some leisure time to catalog my DVDs in order to sell most of them.

I'll definitely double-dip again in the coming months with some Fox titles (ID4, Day After Tomorrow, the Die Hard). To me, Blu-ray is a big step forward (both for the image and sound) compared to DVD, and I definitely plan to build a solid collection.

If I even remotely like a movie, I tend to buy it on BD. The reason is that I have friends over alot, so I'm catering to tastes other than my own. We have some long, dark Winters up here in Alaska, so we do a ton of movie watching. Since I set up my 1080p projector I've found that upscaled DVD just isn't going to cut it, so I also re-buy stuff that I had on DVD. I'm at about 110 BD's right now and lots more on pre-order

Yea i have a little over 50 movies now and for the most part I would say thaey are pretty much all titles I like. I am a huge fan on film in general so I like owning as many movies as I can. I don't consider all of them great movies persay but movies like Enemy of the State or Gone in 60 Seconds I still consider enjoyable to watch and therefore don't mind adding them to my collection.

hmmmm interesting, I guess I'm sorta picky when it comes to movies.
I do raid my local Blockbuster for rentals quite often...I'm soooooo glad they carry them in store here.

Some of you have set-ups and collections that make me green with envy

I've got 100 Blu-rays at this point, with 5 pre-orders in as well and well over 20 more titles that I will want before Christmas. I buy what I want. Some I have seen, some I have heard enough about (new releases) that I pick it up on release and try it out. I haven't been disappointed with one yet, although Primeval was a bit of a close call. I did the same with DVD, and I've vastly cut out purchasing DVDs in hopes of mass-adoption of Blu-ray because I'm willing to wait. I love movies, so I collect them if I'm interested. I figure if I take a gamble on one I don't like, I can always auction it or trade it, the same as I have done with DVD (still can't believe I got my money back out of Mind Trap). To each their own in movie tastes....

Not only do you must have a lot of disposable income you must be a very nice guy. It's costly enough supporting my own movie buying habit without worrying about covering all my friends interests too. I have never known anyone in my entire lifetime who purchased stuff with the intentions of keeping their friends happy too. Your friends must love you, mine are not so generous.

There are a handful of crap ones out there, but for the most part there are a lot worth re buying and collecting. I plan on having close to 100 near X-mas...there are a lot of good ones coming out soon.

Only rebuying my fav's here, too. I would be seriously broke if I replaced all the titles I could.

I will admit I work odd jobs to make extra money to fund my extravagant, Blu-ray-buying lifestyle.

Hit 200 a few days ago. I have been replacing alot of my SD dvd's even though I told myself I would not do it this time (like when I changed all my VHS to DVD).

With two kids, one 7 and the other 14, I buy alot of Blu movies that I would never buy for myself (so I tell myself)

As of this afternoon I'm up to I think 80. Heheh, I need to update my sig.

I buy movies that I really like. After seeing BD I can't go back to DVD if I have the option of buying Blu. I've been spoiled. But I also find myself buying films I've never seen before because of friends recommendations or because they are movies I was really excited about, but never saw in theatres. I'm a recluse & can do most of my work from home while watching so it works for me. So far I've been fortunate to not purchase anything that I think totally sucked. I think my biggest dissapointment was Vacancy...and I still watched it twice. If I'm ever not sure or if the movie is overpriced(ehem, xmen, ehem) I can just rent it through BlockBuster.

I rarely spend more than $24 on a disk unless I really wanted it bad, or it won't be pressed anymore(ehemParamount, ehem). Man I'm coughing a lot tonight. hehehe
