EXCLUSIVE: ‘Deadpool’ Solo Movie Confirmed, Ryan Reynolds Attached To ‘Wolverine’ Spin-Off

DeadpoolEarlier today came official word about an “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” sequel, confirming what Hugh Jackman had already told MTV News about his plans for a follow-up to this weekend’s blockbuster. Now, MTV News has received official word that there is also a “Deadpool” solo movie in active development, with “Wolverine” actor Ryan Reynolds reprising his role as Wade Wilson, Marvel’s mutant assassin.

According to a source close to Fox, the “Deadpool” spin-off film will be produced by Lauren Shuler Donner and Marvel, and will be “a complete exploration of this unique character — his origins, his emergence as the Merc with the Mouth.” The studio is currently seeking writers for the project.

While Reynolds has already shared some half-joking ideas for what he’d like to see in a “Deadpool” solo movie, one of the post-credits scenes in “Wolverine” offered the first official clue that such a project was being considered. Prior to that, however, there was no shortage of filmmakers and comic creators chiming in to voice their support for such a spin-off, including Reynolds himself, as well as Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld and Fox Chairman Tom Rothman.

A project more than five years in the making, the “Deadpool” movie will feature Reynolds in the role many fans are calling the best supporting role in “Wolverine” — but now the question is likely to be: What “Deadpool” story will the movie tell?

Seems to be a lot of dislike for either the merc with a mouth or Ryan Reynolds. Wonder if its such a good idea to make this movie.

1. Ryan Reynolds was Deadpool after the credit scene
2. His mouth was open

if they stick close to the source material for the most part, i think the fans will overwhelmingly accept it

and the general audience will as well if deadpool is half as awesome as some Deadpool fans have told me

i don't understand why that would matter at all. there was a reason they used a bigger actor for weapon xi

yes, scott adkins was only there for most of the fight scenes.

that's a pretty loose argument!! it's like saying Robert Downey Jr. isn't Iron Man b/c he didn't wear every suit of armor.

I personly don't think it's a good idea to do a film on this. I mean we know why and where "deadpool" came from we know why we was created. I think it's a just a way to make money. I think it would be a bad idea. But thats just my 2 cents for whatever it's worth.

That video of Ryan Renolds is awesome. Hopefully he has some creative input for the movie. I'd like to see this one happen for sure. Nice find!

we know about all the other super hero's too. i guess they should just pack it up and call it a day.
