I think this is a fantastic idea.

The rest of my family isn't that into movies in general, but if I tell them it's National Blu-Ray Day or something, that might help persuade them to come over.

This is probably the most helpful idea I've read on these forums. I'm skeptical about how much letters or phone calls to the studios will do. Money talks more than phone calls.

But this actually directly increases demand for the product, which will boost rentals and sales. Since Sony and company need our help, I think this is the best we can do. No one is more influential than a friend or family member. And seeing a BluRay movie in person usually seals the deal. The BR display at Best Buy hooked me in at first sight. BR for life!!

I can't promise the 2nd, but I can do it in November for sure... maybe even for Halloween and show Sleepy Hollow... or Evil Dead 2!

I'm in but nothing out of the ordinary for my weekend. Movies, poker, beer, movies, beer, poker, repeat.

The wives hate it when they guys come to my house. They go home armed with ideas and plans for cool stuff that conflicts with drapes and furniture and college funds. Tops on the list is PS3 for the blu-ray, 60"+ HDTVs and of course lossless audio capable receivers.

It's my ministry here on earth.

Cool. I am in. Going to make an "official" invitation for it. Calling it "High Definition Movie Night: Experience the Home Cinema of the Future Now".

I deliberately do not mention Blu-Ray. It might "scare" of some friends of mine who have a XBOX 360 (no player as far as I know). But I will certainty start to educate my friends and family about Blu-Ray that night.

For the actual movie: I will let them vote a week beforehand on one of three movies. Not sure yet which. Will also depend on my collection around that time

...o, and here's the other thing if your a sales person. Try to get your manager to have a little Blu-ray party/event on this day. I work at Sears part-time, and my co-workers and managers like the idea (although it's not official yet). The company might not throw money into it, but I'm sure people will vulonteer to do stuff, bring goodies in, and so on..

I always thought about doing that, I sort of did that unconsciously out of my excitement about HD in general and BLURAY, I alwasy converted 3 people to buy PS3s and go BLU in the past 3 months. But now I will make it a point to do this on a regular basis!

After the September buy-a-thon I think I'll go to my friends and watch one of the movies on his PS3. He just got it and doesn't know what blu-ray is.
