Default Philips @ CEDIA - BDP9000 Blu-ray Player

Quote:
Ah, another Blu-ray player. Philip's BDP9000 is coming "third quarter" at a price of $999. Anything else you need to know? 1080p HDMI output, memory card slots and it plays Blu-ray discs - 50GB included.

Exactly. "ANOTHER Blu-Ray player."

Watching this build up to the 4th quarter is just like watching a bunch of troops align themselves on a country's border and you're just waiting to see the signal get dropped and the masses charge forward.

Philips, when asked, specifically said that they didn't think the player was actually going to come out this year. Early 2007 was the quote. Could have been inaccurate, but that's what I got from them directly. The ONLY Blu-ray players they were showing at CEDIA were the Japanese models. The one pictured above was under glass, and NOT playing anywhere by them. If they don't have it working at CEDIA, I wouldn't expect it to be out this year at all.

...EXCEPT...

LG is rumoring a player this year and showed NO player at all at CEDIA.

Is their a rumored pricetag to go along with it? I'm not too interested in LG anything but I'm curious just how much of a budget player this may be.

No. - As in, yes, I asked, and no price was known - or even if the rumor I am speaking of has a chance in this world of becoming reality. Pure and simple rumor that came from the mouth of a Philips rep at CEDIA. So, who knows for sure how real it is.

Well the coverage reported that they showed a player at IFA Berlin expo.

Just no price though.

My guess for the LG would be around 799 in line with the rumored new samsung pricing.
