Default What movie will the first BD only release?

I think it will be star trek cuz after catching the midnight showing there's no way in hell that would be released on DVD.

No idea, we probably won't see one until 60-70% market saturation, too many people would complain.

Well, we do have Disney waiting about 7 weeks between the Blu-ray and DVD release of Snow White, so it's a start.

I'd say it will be Disney, with a catalog title, sometime in 2010 or early 2011.

As for a new release, that won't happen for at least three years.

Odds are it won't be a blockbuster, and it will be some indie trying to be experimental. I could see someone like Soderbergh doing it since he likes to try different methods of releasing his movie.

By the way, there's no chance Star Trek won't be released on DVD. Blu-ray has nowhere near the market penetration necessary to bypass DVD distribution.

Its still waaay too soon for that kind of move. No studio is even considering it since they make the great majority of $$ on new release DVDs, and they will not pass those dollars up.

What was the first DVD release that did not have a VHS come out alongside it?

It won't be Star Trek. It won't happen for a while.

The DaVinci Code Extended Cut is the first real major BD only release.

Since the extended cut wasn't released on DVD in the US. Causing much griping.

Jurassic Park IV. The one Steven Spielberg has been excited about for the last 65 million years.

There may be more BD's released before DVD, but I do not think there will be exclusives for a while.

In that case, it might be "BloodRayne: Warhammer"

Avatar will be release sometime, in summer 2010 on BD? I doubt it will only come out on BD, way too early for that.

Maybe The Hobbit?

That movie has yet to be made. It's still years away before Blu-Ray has the market share that DVD does - if ever.

I agree its way to early to make Blu Ray only offers. Unless they do something like a Blu Ray release followed by the DVD release 3 months later. But as far as not being available on DVD we still have at least 5-6 years. I think more like 7-8 myself.
