I would suggest at least getting two more lightbars so you can have lights on the top, bottom, left, and right. I have a 46" TV with 6 lightbars. Two on the bottom and top and one on each side.

Damn that's what I thought. That's a lot of money for lights, crap lol. I just bought a new reciever that cost a 1000 so I might have to hold off on this for the time being. Unless you or anyone else has any links for deals on these. Thanks again

You can go with the IKEA Dioder lights. They are $50 and many members here have them. They come with 4 10" lightbars. They were too short for me but I know I've seen many on here that have an amazing setup with the Dioders.

Go you be a little more specific with them being too short? Becuase your TV is smaller then mine. What was the main issue with the length being 10"?

Edit: Do you have a link for the IKEA lights

My main issue was that it did not cover a large area. I wanted to have a 360 degree glow around my TV. That didn't work out too well with one 10" lightbar on each side, the top, and bottom. BUT many here have them and love them!

Why don't they let you buy that item online? The nearest IKEA store is an hour and a half away. Any other site have them for sale?

Default Imported Led Strips

As a cheaper alternative you can do what i did and import Flexable LED Strips from: Besthongkong
The Flexible & Water Proof ones in the link above are what i am using.
They do have other kinds of led strips but i havent tryed them.

You can get them in 12cm to 96cm Yellow, Red, Green, Blue, White and RGB.
They are 12 volt dc but they don’t come with a power supply you will have to buy a 12 volt dc power transformer and wire it up yourself (the strip just comes with 2 wires Negative and Positive RGB one comes with 4 wires.

I did have Blue 48cm LED Strips but I just got RGB ones that came with a controller that just switched between the colors randomly but I cut that off and put my own 3 switches on it so I could switch between the colors manually.

It depends on what kind of effect you are anticipating. I have a set of 4 in my gallery if you want to look. I actually only have one behind my TV, 2 behind my speakers and one under my TV stand. They do give off a good amount of light, even just 2 of them. You can also rotate them within their clips that hold them to adjust the amount of light being omitted from behind the TV. You can also hit "pause" on the controller when the lights dim and change color when they are rotating to also limit the amount of light.

They have 8 different colors (if you include white) and they have 7 different modes to rotate the colors with. I like them, as they provide a nice effect when watching movies. They are also helpful for your eyes when watching movies.

I actually remember looking at your gallary. I came across the lights and that's actually what made me want to get them lol.

LOL..... I just like what they do for the area around my TV stand. I like a very nice, clean, balanced front soundstage, and adding the Cyron lights just make it that much better to me. I like and value aesthetics, plus that usually makes the WAF happy as well.....

Has anyone tried making their own stand-alone DIY Ambilight system? I know you can do it if you have an HTPC and software running but that would be cool to see it in a standalone system. I would buy that in an instant! I really would like to do that for my projector system.

OK, so there is some kind gauge that measures the volume of your speakers or is it just the bass or both? I have the Cyron lights and they have a setting that does move with the music, but not in a motion that was similiar to that video, and my Cyron light setting also seems heavily dependent on bass for them to "move" or "flicker."

He actually used the video signal to control the lights. That's why it seems to react very well with the video. If he offered up the program its actually simple to setup, but it's the program that is probably tricky. Unless you understand programing language you wouldn't be able to make one yourself.

I have a color organ kit that I've used to flash lights to music. I plug an mp3 player directly to it instead of a mic. You could have one color organ per audio channel and use analog cables to run the lights. I don't think it would be too hard.
