Default Why does Sony feel the need to advertize Blu-ray on Blu-ray

I watched Rise of the Lycans today on Blu Ray and before the movie began Sony advertisment for Blu Ray. Why would they advertise the Blu Ray format to some one who obviousley rents or buys Blu ray? Maybe some one with a marketing could explain this.

LOL maybe they figure you're a first time blu-ray buyer and want to buy more? Not that strange, studios advertised coming soon theatrical releases and DVD releases all the time on DVDs.

Why when you're watching TV the channel you're watching reminds you over and over again what channel you're watching? It's all about promotion.

Yes, exactly. They want you to know you're watching the most awesome thing out there, and that the only thing that'll give you that is Blu-ray. Especially considering where we are in the format's life, I think it's actually essential to promote the name and format Blu-ray.

You can apply this marketing strategy to anything. You know you're on TNT when you're watching TNT, but they want to engrain their superiority to you by saying things like "only on TNT" or whatever. Or if you're on www.eBay.com, you know you're there because you typed that in the URL bar or clicked something to take you there, but you're sure as heck going to be reminded of where you are no matter what page you're viewing.

Would you rather they advertise blu ray on dvd? It's just like watching a dvd movie and seeing previews of upcoming dvd releases.
