I'm asking who the people are who are buying them now, having never done so before, and asking why I literally never see someone browsing the DS section in the Best Buys and Fry's and Targets of the world.

Maybe they are super popular at Toy stores, which I never enter. Maybe some type of store I'm not even thinking of is cranking them out by the dozens. I really don't know.

I would tend to say that the DSi is a non-issue, but I've never been a big fan of console/portable "upgrades"...and don't think I've ever purchased one. Not even a PS or PS2 slim.

Upgrades? Advertising? Obviously something is compelling.

Anecdotes.

Maybe those advertisements are working, but god I hope not. Can you get more lame than a random has-been celebrity playing with a DS? From watching commercials you wouldn't even really know what a DS was. Just that you can warp your friends face with it or touch it with a stylus.

And saying anecdotes is continuing the tradition of saying nothing. Refute my anecdotes. Do you see people DS shopping all the time? If so maybe I just get unlucky. But if they are selling 1 million DSs, you'd think that I would have seen *SOMEONE* DS shopping in the last month, with the amount of time I spend in tech shops. And yes, this is something I pay attention to, it's kind of an OCD of mine.

Doesn't work that way. You have to prove your assertion.

Ps3 needs a price cut , badly. I already have 2 so I'm not buying one anytime soon. The only game I'm really looking forward to is Bioshock 2. I think we'll continue to see numbers like this until late fall. I still think the ps3 is a great value for $400 , but not everybody seems to have that thought

How much time do you spend in the Nintendo aisle of Best Buy that you think you should see anyone pick up a DS or DS game? I go at least once a week but would never presume to believe most sales happen to occur while I'm there. Sheesh!

There's a big difference between 'most sales happen to occur when I'm there' and 'not once has a sale ever occurred while I'm there'.

What a ridiculous argument.

I see the numbers. I just dont think a 50,000 difference puts them close to each other. Nice way to spin the PS3 sales, but it was still very disappointing

That's like 12.5k/w it is a pretty small amount considering the gulf in price.

My household owns three DSes. Mine, my wife's, and an old unit that stopped working.

Should there be a game that comes out that utilizes the DSi's features that we want, we'll be at 5 DS units. We also have about 7 Gameboys in various states of repair/functionality.

What I'm trying to say, is with the DS especially, you see alot of folks multi-dip into it due to the iterative nature of the upgrades. And, being a portable game system, if you do have a family where you have multiple people who want the system, you have to have more than one unit.

Yeah not that surprising at all, thing is Sony can't really drop the price much more without really going into the red with each sale.

It was really the perfect storm against Sony - format wars, economy, the Wii, etc.

It's really too bad - they deserve more support for the stellar system they put out. I've never got so many uses out of a game system.

People just never seemed to catch on that the PS3 was a multi-media machine - not just a gaming system.

Not too surprising. Last quarter, it sold about the same (6% lower) as it's most direct half-of-the-price competitor, worldwide - according to shipment numbers. This fall, we'll probably see things change a bit.

I dont need any spin! 360 is $199 its cheaper than the wii. you would expect it to sell more. the ps3 is more expensive than the 360 and it managed to come close in sales. 50,000 is not a big gap. i cant believe your trying to act like only the ps3 sales are dissapointing. i repeat, the both sold under 200k.

Nice way to spin 360 sales, but it was still very disappointing
