About 0.47% difference in sales between 360 and PS3 ... I'd call that pretty dead even in any book but the most picky
![]() Now May could be interesting... P.S: Are you sure that GTA sold 1.85 Million units on 360 within 2 days in the US ? (GTA 4 launched April 29th 2008, and I guess the NPD numbers cover the US and not world). Quote:
![]() And I think that was within the first week, not 1 day? Last edited by Elandyll; 05-16-2008 at 12:14 AM. |

And yes, this was a 4 week month unlike last month that had 5 weeks. Worldwide and that was more up to date than April's NPD numbers. |

may i think will tell us more about GTA IV and the console. Hardcore gamers bought it in the first 2 weeks but mostly the software. I'm sure it will pick up as people wait more and more and finally get both console and GTA as well as other games coming out soon

Wow, I'm surprised to see the Wii selling so well (although, I realize most people aren't surprised by the number). Anyway, I thought it would have died down by now.
I was talking to a few co-workers today about the PS3 / PS2 and we're all wondering why Sony continues to put so much behind the PS2. Even at retail, it still takes up a huge amount of shelf-space and they still seem to be selling a bunch of them. I thought they'd start trying to encourage the upgrade to a PS3 by now but do you think they're keeping the PS2 as the standard definition solution (and will continue to keep it around since they appear to have backed off the PS3s PS2 compatibility somewhat)? I thought that looked pretty good but I was assuming the x360 installed base is much larger than the PS3s. Is that not the case? I haven't really paid that much attention to the numbers to really know so maybe I shouldn't have made that assumption. Last edited by owa; 05-16-2008 at 03:51 AM. |

First of all, 1.85 million is 85% more than 1 million, not 100% more (or 2-1) sales. The PS3 version made up just over 35% of the title's sales in the game's first five days of release in the US -- which, of course is a territory Microsoft dominates. Based on NPD data, Microsoft has outsold Sony on hardware since launch in the U.S. 2.37:1, while this game only sold better on their platform 1.85:1. Of course, they had claimed they were doing 2:1 or better, so that would have been a lie -- even just looking at US data. When we actually see worldwide data (where the PS3 has a far greater installbase), its likely that both versions sold about the same during that initial release window. Either way, it's a great showing on both systems. As for being "associated with" the PS3 -- well, the series is certainly more associated with Sony systems (rightfully so), but I don't think GTA IV is at all associated with the PS3 over the 360, especially since Microsoft bought the rights to some exclusive content. |

please notice the word ALMOST, i can do math as for the Microsoft exclusive content, i have a feeling alot of people that have both systems were swayed by that...not to mention if they waited a little bit and heard about the ps3 freezing problems |

Regardless, Microsoft said they were tracking over 2:1, which they definitely didn't do. As for the other, I agree that most people with both systems went for the 360 version. I don't know about the "freezing problems" swaying people, especially since we're only looking at data from the first five days. But the "exclusive content" and the fact that most US gamers have more friends with 360's to play against online I'm sure had a LOT to do with it. |

As of March 31st, there have been 12.81m PS3's sold to retailers worldwide. So it's probably at about 13.5m - 14m now.
