I do a lot of outdoor movies during the summer and currently use a Sharp XG-c50x, and older, but great projector with 3000 lumens.
I normally run regular DVDs component out to VGA in the projector and can get 720p. I was wondering if I got a Bluray player and went component out to VGA in, the same way, if I would see a better res than plain DVD? Thanks in advance. |

Problem is, I only have a single composite video in, an S-Video in and the VGA.
The only way for me to come out 3 component out is the VGA into the projector. |

You'd have to deal with the inherent 16:9 output of Blu-ray. If you simply displayed that everything would looked squished horizontally. Would your setup handle a 1280x720p or 1920x1080i output?
I expect you'd have to look for an Blu-ray player that could output something useful for your setup. Assuming you watch widescreen presentations on DVD, you will certainly get some improvement with Blu-ray. The maximum resolutions for widescreen material: 16:9 - 1024 x 576 1.85 - 1024 x 554 2.39 - 1024 x 428 So, for two of those there is more vertical resolution available in the Blu-ray than is available from the DVD (480). |

The projector unsqueezes the anamorphic images. I always use that format.
What Blu Ray player would be a good one for a newbie just starting out? |

To reiterate, I HAVE a component-VGA cable that I use for regular DVDs.
Just wondering if that would work better with a Blu-Ray player. |

Lol with the magic resolution enhancer! The maximum he can go based on the information is 720p and yes it will definitely look better for sure. It's pretty cool that you watch movies outside my neighbor behind me does that when they have parties and gatherings pretty cool stuff.

Even if Blu-rays were just 480p, they would be superior to DVD. Gary |
