USA Blu-ray Recorders - Availability in US?

When is the expected date of the BluRay recorders in the US? We do a broadcast HD production and want to utilize BluRay as an archiving format for our HD broadcasts (proof of performance/air check).

When with the decks be available in the US to record either directly to BR disc real time or to hard drive (to dump to disc later)? I noticed the units listed on the "recorders" page are all available in Japan only.

Thank you for your assistance!

Currently, the only ones available in the US with the capabilities you want, are HTPC's, or actually every PC or Laptop with a BD-recorder (internal/external), but not the Stand Alone's from the link you mentioned.

You are among what I assume to be the many that would like stand-alone BR recorders in the US. A solution that might work for you (like gekke says) is a PC with a BR writer. Depending on the output of your capture device, you may need some special handling for the PC to take that kind of input. I expect that your device outputs either firewire or HDMI. If HDMI, the 'Black Magic Intensity' is currently the only suitable HDMI capture card for PCs.

Being that you are a media provider, perhaps you can put in a good word in the industry. Word is that the MPAA and media providers do not want these sold in the US because of copyright concerns.

This was only a rumor that Panasonic refused to confirm; however, these devices are actually for sale in the UK now. The UK is the latest after Japan and Australia to get BR recorders. Supposedly, Germany will get them next.

My take is that there are plenty of US customers waiting for stand-alone BR recorders, and I expect that the adoption of the format would quicken in the US if stand-alone BR recorders were available.
