Watched my copy yesterday evening. The thing that stuck out to me the most was the added clarity to background objects like walls and furniture. For example, in the hallway outside of Baxter's apartment you could clearly see the scratches and general wear on the walls. All in all it is a solid looking presentation IMHO but I still wonder what Dolby Vision would have brought to the table. I'll still hang on to my Arrow set for the special features and booklet.

Having seen some prints of other widescreen black-and-white movies from that era projected, I'd say the Kino looks closer to true, if perhaps a little too overcooked. Somewhere in between the two, leaning a bit more toward the Kino, would probably be closest to accurate.

Perhaps - I'm just going off the screencaps, which may not tell the story accurately. I have yet to receive my Kino 4K disc.

It's more that film prints rarely look as flat as that Arrow disc does. The detail is all there and it looks great, but if accuracy to theatrical presentation is what's being sought, then boosting the contrast makes sense. Kino may have overdone it a bit, but I'll be curious to check it out.

My preorder from Kino just shipped. Tried all week to cancel after I bought it from Best Buy. But they wouldn’t let me and then it processed and shipped. So I’ll have two copies. Heading into week 3 of my Touch of Evil order from Kino saying it’s processing.

For the current price, I'm fine with my Arrow version.

Same. I may well pick it up at some point but likely when it's a fair bit cheaper.
Given the differences in colour timing on these SDR discs of Kino's it makes me wonder how In The Heat Of The Night is gonna turn out. I really do hope they don't touch it and just give it a nice fat encode. |

How can that be if the mono is from the LD on the Blu as well? They went to the trouble of swapping it out for the Blu, but used the old master...?
