![]() ![]() Well...after having friends over to watch the NHL Stanley Cup games on my Kuro, my friends view me as the #1 choice for sports venue viewing. I'm watching the LA Lakers vs Orlando Magic on this plasma and it's like someone rubbing silk on my eyeballs and two beautiful girls nibbling on my ears. We are listening to this game in full Dolby digital 5.1 surround sound on an uncompressed digital HD transmission (better than Comcast which is compressed) on a 60 inch Kuro. (see my attic HD antenna in my HT gallery). I want to thank God for letting me live in this time in history and having the means to enjoy this awesome technology. |

I think OTA stations are somewhere around 15-20 megs bandwidth.
But anyway...have you ever watched an OTA transmission on a nice plasma in HD? I do...and I've seen the Comcast HD transmission on a nice TV. There is NO comparison. |

As good as it looks, I think NBC's and FOX's HD broadcasts are much better. And even ABC's other NBA broadcasts like their Sunday games of the week going back a month or two seemed to lack the pixelation and blur that I saw in all the finals games so far. It doesn't look bad but it's lacking in definition and shows lots of artifacts.
I'm getting it OTA. I'll never pay for cable or dish again. |

In terms of PQ (and quality basketball), you're not missing a whole lot. ABC's broadcasts aren't the greatest. FOX baseball in high def is about as good as it gets. In some of those shots of the outfield it looks like every blade of grass is visible and when they show the stands you can practically make out the face of every fan.

I agree. I wasn't too impressed with what i saw last night, but give me a fox baseball game of the week and i'm in heaven. Even though i hate the Red Sox, is it me or is the grass just a little greener at Fenway? |

Aside from the hand held cameras, do networks like ESPN or FOX actually use their own equipment at the field or arena where the event is happening?
Like when ESPN goes to Fenway to do a Sunday or Wednesday game, do they use the NESN camera feeds for their broadcast and just mix them a little differently? or do they actually take the time to set up their own cameras in addition to the regional sports network? |
