Are you talking about ripping an HD DVD and burning it to a Blu-ray Disc? I'd like to know this as well . . .

No, not appropriate content for this forum. i am saying to find a way to welcome the HD-DVD camp into blu-ray without being sore losers - or worse. Sore winners!

I say, "Let it play out." since that's what's most likely to happen anyway. Might as well be realistic in my response.

Best option : don't make this a jihad, just relax and let things play out the way they're supposed to.

One thing that scared me most about the red format is the picture of a very few extremists painting the AVS HD DVD support group in a bad light. If you consider what is being posted, most red supporters are quite reasonable people with strong opinions, but they might as well be your next door neighbours, even though some just get caught up in the rhetoric and politics and atmosphere encouraged by some people there.

A very very few of them, I can imagine would climb up water towers with sniper rifles and take out anyone who ever wronged them, and those guys are just no fun to be around with.

Would hate for ANY blu-ray supporters to become as extreme. That might turn me off HDM forever.

Even DVD didn't make everyone happy because of the staunch VHS support. Got bally hooed about not making a difference and couldn't record, etc, etc, ...

Well, the combo players got me to convert. Still had my VHS to play anything old, and record when I needed to. But enjoyed the quality and space savings of DVD.

Which is why I still believe the combo player is the way to go. As long as Paramount says, "ok, when this 18 months is up, we will phase out HD-DVD and go blu, it will work."

How many times do I have to say it. People invested HUNDREDS into those movies as we have. Unless they create a free exchange program, they will be stuck with those movies.

Those adopters might like the HD-DVD movie offerings better, as we love our offerings. Probably why they chose it. If we burn them they may just go back to DVD and HD-DVD, and snub blu-ray out of spite.

All HDM adopters are pioneers. Don't kill HD-DVD adopters off, we need them to get blu-ray into high gear by letting them convert over slowly.

It's been said any new technology (that stays) takes an average of 50 years to fully permeate society. DVD did that in less than 10. blu-ray will take a little longer, but it won't be done by killing off HDM supporters. Sends a bad message to people still choosing sides.

There was a time I thought HD-DVD would win, and wanted it to win for some very lame and stupid reasons. But I saw the light - and that light was blu.

you make some very good points tron! i feel the best way would to have dual players and just phase out hd-dvds so people with them can buy blu but keep their old films and if they wish to upgrade they can!thatw ay theyt are not really out of pocket!

i dont know though weather to take the bill clin-tounge as an insult of compliment lol

I am really suprised to see how many people support the "cold turkey" method. I thought for sure more people would see the logic and reasoning. If blu-ray was losing, would you feel the same way? Would YOU want to be stuck with hundreds in movies? What will you do when your players breaks and you can't get it fixed, or buy a new one? Same thing that happend to people with laser disc. Combo players are the answer.

Next is the blu-ray / VHS combo. The thing about cold turkey is that it inevitibly makes you sleepy.

Combo players are a bad idea... HD-DVD people already have ONE boat anchor in their home theatre system. Offering them a combo player would be a more expensive transition then having them buy a BD standalone.

Besides, as long as you have a combo player on the market, there will be some knuckle head company willing to release only in that format as long as the incentives from the combo player manufacturer were high enough.

Just let it die.

They made the mistake.

It's sad because they may have thought they were saving money by buying a cheaper player.

Either way,.. they should cut thier loses now scrap thier collection or keep it but start building a collection on the format with a future.

I was just watching The Patriot on Blu-ray and this line (quote) seemed perfect for this thread:

CORNWALLIS
"These colonials are our brethren and
when this conflict is over, we will
be reestablishing commerce with
them."

Seems to fit with the adopters of HD-DVD.

As in dealing with any bad habit, it is best to just quit cold turkey.

when BD wins the war...we should act as if it's just another day in the world of Blu-ray...

we've been kicking their tail for so long that it would be pointless to rub it in more...

no reason to make them feel bitter about the loss and not adopt a BD player...

the war is pretty much over and has been to me....and when it is "officially" over....we should just ho-hum it...

the only thing we should celebrate is the fact that Paramount is coming back home and Universal would join us...

we support the superior format...and we should act like it...

I'm not too much into software on players but...

I work at a Best Buy service center, and recently had the chance to crack open that LG combo player. I noticed that it only had 2 lens, the ultra violet and regular one for DVDs. Now, this shows that both formats get read by the exact same laser, now how the hell does it cost more to manufacture a combo player??? Software differences?? I dont understand...if someone could enlighten me
