Default I finally pulled the trigger, got off the fence etc

So, after months and months of reading through these forums, asking lots of questions and looking at different sets, I finally decided now was the time to upgrade my (3 year old, 720p, 40") Samsung LCD.

I had a very strict budget and wanting to stay within it, I just purchased a 50" Panasonic TC-P50S1. It's my first plasma and I'm pretty excited.

Through some careful negotiations, I also managed to get:

- $200 off the price of the tv
- free 3 year extended warranty
- free Panasonic DMP-BD60 Blu-Ray player.

The Blu-Ray player is completely not necessary as I already have a PS3. But the dude offered to throw it in so I wasn't about to say no.

So all in all I'm pretty excited to go pick it up tonight or tomorrow once I borrow someone's van or suv. (times like this i really wish i didn't drive a civic)

So this should keep me happy for a while before I focus on purchasing some "real" speakers to replace my Polk bookshelf set.

Good times.

Retail price for the tv is $2399.99 + tax. I got it all for $2199.99 + tax.

If you're wondering why the prices are INSANE, it's because I'm in Canada and we get royally screwed on prices for this type of thing. Hence why I couldn't upgrade to a G10, V10 or a super delicious Kuro.

Oh right my signature.... I'll take care of that later once it's all set up.

I still think its a good deal...if you were getting it from Bestbuy from here..you would be looking at $1900-$2000 for the same combo. As plasmas go Pannys are up there..I'd pick it over the rest anyday!

Dont forget to post some pics once you're done!!!

I don't understand. This set retails (today) at Best Buy (in the US) for $1200. At today's exchange rate, that's C$1,362. So you overpaid by C$837 (getting a 3 year warranty and a BD player), and this is a deal? What am I missing here?

Thing is, here in Canada we get ripped off..... even if with the exchange rate the price should be 1,362$C, it cost more.... retail price for the 50S1 in Canada is 2400$C... Paid 3299$C for a TC-P54V10 (and the TC-P54G10 was 3000$C).

Yer missing the fact that its Canada. Diff countries diff taxes...I've been all over the world and I gotta say you cant beat the prices of electronics here. Whether its UK, Dubai, Japan or India...they kill you with the taxes they levy on goods.

Sucks being you then.

Sorry, only kidding. I knew Canada had onerous taxes, but I never knew they were that bad. I suppose I should start to get used to it. We've got the same thing coming down the pike for us....

I hope you don't have the same thing coming down the pike. Because every time American prices go up, Canadian prices go up x2. It sucks, but not much we can do.....

Congrats on your purchase, but do me a favor and do an audio test with the BD 60 vs PS3 then tell me that you so did not need that standalone player. Listen to the AQ & PQ then please get back to me. That BD player is such a bonus, it makes watching movies even better!

Just got the tv mounted and decided to throw in Sin City for a few minutes.

...ohhhhhhh, so that's what blacks are supposed to look like.

I can only imagine what the higher end tvs look like.

Once I go through a break in period I'll be sure to post some pics, and hopefully do an audio test between the PS3 and the Panny.

I feel like a kid on christmas morning!
