Paradigms are sweet! Of course that would have been helpful info at the start of this thread.

Then it is easy. Decide which set of Paradigms you want and buy what you can afford after the AVR. Then go from there. They have some really nice center channels..

If you like their sound then go for it. It wouldn't hurt to listen to a few other brands first though.

I wouldn't get a Paradigm sub though..

Look at eD, Epik, Outlaw Audio, SVS, and HSU.

You should thank your dad and brother, that was extremely nice of them.

Im thinking your dad sent you an APC Power Conditioner...what is the model #? These can be very beneficial to any setup...clean power and protection.

As for the Sony BDP-S350, It is an excellent Bluray player! Definitely not outdated. You should have no problems with it. I have one, and have zero issues playing any movie. Very reliable.

You are lucky to have been "given" these items.

that is a great Power Conditioner.

When they were on sale, it was madness around here! Check out the APC owners thread.

Like I said, you are verrrry lucky to have been 'given' one of these!

You're not going to like your log-in name after a few months... I'll then call you HTV

I picked one up in that sale. I've been very happy with it so far. Make sure you connect the AVR & Sub plugs into the correct sockets on the back. They are designed for the higher current needs. I had my sub plugged into the wrong one and was getting clipping/distortion on the extreme low frequency scenes.

It may be a little difficult to place your rears in all that open space. (I mean with speakers and stands just sitting out in the open) Will you have bookshelf speakers on stands? ceiling mounted? Having open space along the back of your HT seems good to me because you don't get sound reflections off the back wall. (Usually the worst wall for reflections since you usually sit closer to it.)

I don't think it will be a problem. If it is you could alway look into room treatments. If you have a couch in the middle of a square room you could have a bass null, but I'm not sure if it would be a problem for you because of the shape of the room (with the open area in back) and the couch is a little closer to the front wall. Something to conisder if you do have bass output issues.

Also, if you get an AVR with EQ (Audyssey, MCACC, etc..) it should help with environment issues.

I plan on putting on each side of the sofa a bookshelf speaker on stands facing the sofa. The floor is hardwood flooring so I hope that helps with the bass.

We have an area rug that I think helps with the acoustics in our room (hardwood floors as well). You should also look into a sub isolator if you have hardwoods.

For that I would look at something that decodes all HD codes and has amp out puts. So if you do want to upgrade your speakers to something that makes better/more sound all you would have to do is buy an amp or something along that line.

As for your room audio issue have you ever thought about putting up curtains around your HT area? This can help out with keeping sound in the area and cut down on out side light sorces in the room also.

Just for poops and laughs, The lists of speakers and Subwoofers from Big Daddy

Also How high is the Ceiling in the Basement?
