that is a great Power Conditioner.

When they were on sale, it was madness around here! Check out the APC owners thread.

Like I said, you are verrrry lucky to have been 'given' one of these!

I picked one up in that sale. I've been very happy with it so far. Make sure you connect the AVR & Sub plugs into the correct sockets on the back. They are designed for the higher current needs. I had my sub plugged into the wrong one and was getting clipping/distortion on the extreme low frequency scenes.

It may be a little difficult to place your rears in all that open space. (I mean with speakers and stands just sitting out in the open) Will you have bookshelf speakers on stands? ceiling mounted? Having open space along the back of your HT seems good to me because you don't get sound reflections off the back wall. (Usually the worst wall for reflections since you usually sit closer to it.)

I don't think it will be a problem. If it is you could alway look into room treatments. If you have a couch in the middle of a square room you could have a bass null, but I'm not sure if it would be a problem for you because of the shape of the room (with the open area in back) and the couch is a little closer to the front wall. Something to conisder if you do have bass output issues.

Also, if you get an AVR with EQ (Audyssey, MCACC, etc..) it should help with environment issues.

I plan on putting on each side of the sofa a bookshelf speaker on stands facing the sofa. The floor is hardwood flooring so I hope that helps with the bass.

We have an area rug that I think helps with the acoustics in our room (hardwood floors as well). You should also look into a sub isolator if you have hardwoods.
