Woohoo 1 of those PS3's was mine!

Pretty big drop from June 2008 when the PS3 sold 405.5k (MGS4 release month).

everyone is down from last year except the 360. I think a price cut would give a really nice boost to ps3 sales... Also, it's nice to see infamous still doing well.

The price needs to drop. It's that simple. Here we are 3-1/2 years into the PS3's life and it still is more expensive than the PS1 or PS2's LAUNCH price!

I cannot help but wonder, wth was Sony thinking?!?

It's been 2.5 years I believe if that's not what you meant, and you're not really comparing apples to apples here. In terms of capabilities the PS3 is far more advanced than the PS2.

MGS4 was out that month, thats why.

Anyway these are the same old numbers. 360 doesn't have that much of lead considering its price. im not worried, and im sure sony's not worried. they're going to keep doing what they're doing.

Also the price has yet to be cut

IDK about that, PS2 introduced DVD, and multi-core processing with a really weird custom GPU.

PS2 was really cutting edge when it released, I think you do it a disservice to dismiss it so quickly.

I know, that's why I put that at the end of the line you quoted

DVD came out 4 years before the PS2 was released according to my quick google search but I understand your point.

The 360 is up in unit sales but way down in actual revenue, so I don't know that anyone would consider that a win, even MS themselves probably don't on some level.

It was said Prototype sold 600K units combined, so that gives ~180k for PS3 prototype.

Yeah, despite what some resellers might have said recently (that the precedent price cut had not boosted sales that much, and that a new price cut according to them would not change things much), the picture would be quite different with a $299 PS3 imo.

I don't know why people keep saying that another price cut wouldn't help??? When they cut down to 399 it was consistantly outselling the 360 until MS dropped it to 199. I would think that a cut to 299 for sony would only be good thing from a sales stand point.

All the PS3 Slim speculations seem to hurt the current PS3 sales. Hmm, no wonder actually, with all the recent "infos/leaks" about the Slim.

People are waiting for the Slim and the Pricecut. At least that's what they believe in.

I like how fight night round 4 is not much under the 360 version, but prototype and ufc are nowhere to be found :X

Prototype is easy to explain, people bought InFamous instead.

Average sale price on a 360 is reported to be 270$.

PlayStation 3 164.7K
Xbox 360 240.6K

164700 * 400 = 65.8 million dollars
240600 * 270 = 65.0 million dollars

People are too focused on the sales numbers, sales numbers aren't everything.

In fact, it's remarkable that the PS3 actually ends up with equivalent revenue(on HW) in this economy.

That's a really good point. Also if a price cut ever appears expect the dollar spend to increase to around $85m as the number of people increases by more than the price is lowered.

Final point, the ASP is around 380 for PS3 and the latest I had heard for the 360 was 250, both of these are lower than before due to retailer discounting.

Yes that's right. And add to that other consoles PS2 and PSP. Sony is not only the PS3.

And way to go PS2 the true king of consoles .I have it and will never let it go.
