Default Hannibal Lector Anthology -- September 15, 2009

MGM Home Entertainment has announced the Hannibal Lector Anthology for the 15th September. The 3-disc set will include Manhunter, The Silence of the Lambs, and Hannibal, and will retail at around $69.99. Each of the films will be presented in widescreen format with English 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio. Right now we have no details on any extra material, but we'll let you know if we hear anything. Stay tuned. For now though, here's our first look at the official package artwork:

Does anyone know if SotL will be the exact same transfer as the already released version. Both have DTS-HD so it looks like it.

Didn't care for Manhunter so will just have to wait till Hannibal gets released individually.

Will import Red Dragon or trade Man Hunter for it. Or not, since it's Region B.

I hated "Hannibal." I already got "Silence of the Lambs," which is still a favorite of mine. And I haven't seen "Manhunter" yet (I think I'm going to have to rent it; everybody seems to like it). So, I will pass on this set.

Still sounds cool for fans of the series. But surely, they got to put out a set with "Red Dragon" and "Hannibal Rising" in it some day!

Different studios. It will not happen.

How so?

Though RED DRAGON was a Universal film, I have to imagine that MGM can lay some claim to it. The exclusion of RED DRAGON is understandable, but HANNIBAL RISING was for sure an MGM film.

I'll wait until RED DRAGON is in a set (if that ever happens).

Red Dragon is a Universal release. It is not released on home video by MGM, nor do they have any involvement with its treatment on home video.

Hannibal Rising is a Weinstein Company home video release, and again is not controlled by MGM. MGM sold the video rights to them as part of their co-distribution deal.

Maybe so, but MGM had some stake in the production of the film.

MGM controlled theatrical distribution.

However they have no home video rights for this title, so it will not be included in any MGM box sets. Again, it is controlled on home video by Universal.

Again, they were co-distributors with Weinstein for the theatrical run, but have no stake in the home video release. That's controlled by The Weinstein Company.

I don't know how much more clearly I can phrase it. These films won't be in an MGM box set any time soon.

Anyway, I'll be skipping this. I'd rather have RED DRAGON than MANHUNTER.

Hannibal Rising was a Weinstein film, with theatrical distribution by MGM.

A BIG +1! Don't want the others. Hoping for a solo import release.
