Default Smallville: Tom Welling in Suit?

***SUIT CONFIRMED in Season 9***
It may not be the rumored suit, seen below, or at least may not appear that way until the coast is removed. He isn't wearing the suit at the panel, which I think most of us realized wouldn't happen...
Quote:
Ivan and Luis Jaime just sent the following text from inside the "Smallville" panel at San Diego Comic-Con:
Clark will be wearing a long black coat with a black "S" on the chest. He was interacting with Lois from the future in footage just shown to the audience. It looks like something from out of "The Matrix".

Also, Ivan reports that Tom Welling is now on stage and he is NOT wearing a Superman suit.
More to come!

*** SMALLVILLE Comicon Panel About to Begin***

*** Could this be the suit?***

***Ausiello new Article Confirming Tom Welling at Comicon***
Note to those Smallville fans planning to attend Sunday’s event at Comic-Con: You may want to get in line now because a very special guest has just been added to the panel.

Tom freakin’ Welling!

Sources confirm to me exclusively that Welling will make his first-ever Con appearance at the show’s panel discussion on Sunday. He joins exec producers Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson, as well as fellow cast members Allison Mack, Erica Durance, Cassidy Freeman, Justin Hartley and Callum Blue.

This will mark the first time in Smallville history that the entire current cast will be assembled for Comic-Con.

And I repeat: Get in line NOW!

Ausiello Article

***UPDATE giving for credence***
Confirming to you the Superman outfit for "Smallville" is real, there is a mad dash to a bunch of Warner reps happening right now.

But your previous report is slightly off --the suit makes its on-screen debut in the Season Nine premiere, which is called "Superman".

Updated Article

***Original Article***
AintItCool.com has a report claiming that The CW are set to unveil a Superman costume that is reportedly going to be seen in the Season 9 premiere of "Smallville", with Tom Welling set to make an appearance on Sunday in San Diego to model the costume.

Warner bros reps are grabbing random people at the show and giving them a sneak peek at the new Superman costume for Smallville Me and friends were grabbed by one girl (details below) and taken to a room (down the stairs next to the giant starbucks) and shown it.

It's gobsmackingly awesome! no spandex it looked like leather, its one suit, the top is blue at front and back, red on sides and arms, the trousers are blue at the front and back, red at sides. the superman symbol on the chest protruding out, its red. no cape. it was on a stand we could walk around.

There were no photos allowed, but the lady (name Rosie, slightly bigger build, brown hair) said we could tell others at show, to build hype. They're showing random people the suit throughout today, tomorrow and Saturday, and sunday Tom Welling is flying in just to wear it when its unveilled at for Smallville presentation on sunday.

Rumor? Truth? We await word from our own Comic-Con reporters to find out. Stay tuned!

As much as I would like to see him wear the suit. I remember on the season 1 DVD they said he will never wear the suit. I know things can change from then til now but, I still believe they will never show him wear it.

Minor departures might be welcome, but I don't think people will buy a costume like the one you described. Red "racing stripes" would look damned stupid, even moreso than "underwear on the outside". You can change Black Canary or Cyborg or Flash (Kid Flash?) and Green Arrow even. I expect most people have never even heard of any of those characters. But you change the Superman costume drastically and it will alienate the general population. If their objection is due to the "underwear" they could always play it like the live action Batmans I think: just don't have them. In the comics, Batman normally wears a dark grey suit with black "underwear" over it, in the films, it's solid black "light" body armor. No "underwear".

And no cape as well? I find that funny, because they've even directly alluded to the cape early on in the show.

Anyway, this sounds like bunk. It's not true, is it?

If it's truly going to be the last season, then we will see him in the suit eventually.

Especially if the "Metropolis" movie ends up being made

I guess we'll find out soon

THIS IS BULLSH!T...

I will seriously throw my 7 seasons of Smallville on DVD in the garbage as soon as it is confirmed that they will use a suit for Kal-El on Smallville!!!

They made a promise. They break that promise, it's over for my loyalty.

Really?

I love the show, but they're really starting to drag out everything with him not flying and no suit. They need something to freshen it up, and this is something that could.

Like I said... IN THE GARBAGE!!!

The only instance that I will accept a suit is if it is only seen for the last 3 seconds of the very last episode of the series OR the last 3 seconds of this so-called film they have rumoured about. The end of Smallville is the beginning of Superman. And the suit represents the beginning of Superman. Thus, the end of Smallville is the only appropriate place for the suit. There can be no exception to this fact for any true fan of the character.

P.S. Let him fly... that's fine... I can deal with that. But, the suit is something sacred that represents a whole different era of the characters growth. He needs his Kryptonian training before he can dawn the outfit. That training is what the show is constantly avoiding because they know that it will have to be the end of the series if it happens. He will never be Superman in the series. He is always going to be Clark Kent struggling with his Kal-El identity. We can only see him initiate his training. Anything beyond that is asking for extreme prejudice from EVERY Superman fan that ever lived.

Well, they said he would never wear THE suit. So i'm guessing this is just their substitute. Kinda like how he flew, but not "really" (i think he was under black kryptonite, he was wearing all black).

You're not familiar with the story behind Superboy, are you?

There were plenty of stories told of him during his Smallville days donning the blue spandex and red cape.

And frankly, he is beyond his Smallville days at this point. The show is Smallville in name only. I'd agree that the suit would be better saved for what you're saying, but it's not the end of the world.

He was dressed "as a badass" when he was under the influence of red kryptonite, and was dressed in black. I always thought it was bogus how that "personality" would know how to fly, but all the rest of the times his subconscious just toys with it like when he's sleeping..... Maybe they think that "without the cape, it's not really the Superman outfit." Seriously, though, we all KNOW it is impossible to fly if you don't have a cape on... try it yourself!

Actually, when he flew in the series, he was on auto-pilot from the fortress in order to save the world from Bizarro (I think). Afterwards, when he "snapped out of it," he couldn't remember anything. His abilities were based on whatever was temporarily implanted within him in order to complete his immediate task.

P.S. HAHAHAHAHA... try it yourself!!! I haven't tried since I was a kid. Maybe I'll have better luck as a fully grown man and not twist my ankle jumping from the roof???

Just wondering, but what if in the small likeliness this is true and is say the first attempt toward THE suit. Still in the garbage?

Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are the ones who said no tights, no flight, but they left and handed the reigns over...

I'll say that the Aintitcool guys are usually spot on with their news.
Edit: they just updated and it seems this is happening! Here is the quote:

Pulling my DVDs off of the shelf right now... just in case!

Of course, there has to be a photo of some sort to convince me that it is actually going to happen. I'm sure that if Welling indeed shows up to model it, someone will get photos.

He needs to be in some kind of suit. Since Smallville is a kind of off the beaten path in terms of Superman's mythology, then I don't have a problem with the suit being changed. The show is it's own thing, so I'm fine with it as long as he has the symbol on his chest. He needs to be flying and in the suit by this point.

This is kind of unfair since he's basically still Superman without the suit in every single episode, just at a younger age with all of the baggage that comes along with that. The entire show is a sort of training for Clark, putting him through all kinds of physical and emotional tests for his ultimate outcome as Superman, were that to ever happen. And it looks like it's going too. The show needs change at this point. Clark needs to embrace his Kryptonian identity and don some kind of suit for humanity to recognize his as a Kryptonian. Who says this is the one and only suit he'll wear in the show? Perhaps it's just a precursor to the suit we all know and love. But even if it's not, it's necessary by this point. I think you're kind of taking this a little too personally without an open mind. No offense. No one and I mean no one is more protective over the character of Superman than me. It's something that's been with me my whole life and this is a totally necessary venture for the show, IMO. So please don't act as if you speak for every Superman fan.
