Default 65nm Cell in PS3?

Does anyone know for sure if the 80gb PS3's have the smaller 65nm cell in it? I have searched the internet but cannot find any confirmation.

AFAIK, the PS3 does not have the smaller 65nm cell processors yet.

Has anyone heard any rumors as to when they might be placing the 65nm in the PS3? I am really close to getting a PS3, but when I do, I want to make sure I am getitng the latest and the greatest (not that it isn't already ). Heat and noise should drop with the new die size, and I want to make sure my movie experience isn't tainted

Perhaps. Because looking at front view, some cooling mesh is deleted.

It is good to hear that some do not hear the fan. Lately all I have been reading is about the fan noise.

Fan noise? From the PS3? Are you sure you're not talking about the XBOX? My friend's 360 is noisy enough to be distracting. My PS3 is silent. I can only hear it if I put my head right next to it.

I notice it only when I'm not doing anything (ie playing games, listening to music, watching movies). I find the fan to be quite quiet actually. No complaints from me!

I have never experienced fan noise or a loud disc drive on the PS3. I have absolutely 0 complaints about my machine. I couldn't be happier with it's perfoemance.

My PS3 fan can only be heard when I shut off my tv and surround sound and it goes back to its eternal task of protein folding running Folding@Home to help find a cure for cancer. Of course that takes every cell core running at maximum and the louder fan kicks in. But once I end Folding and pop in a blu-ray, my PS3 returns to its nearly inaudible movie playing state. I love my little onyx 20-times-faster-than-a-PC-at-Folding supercomputer!

I rarely ever hear my fan unless I'm really listening for it and even then it isn't as loud as my 360 is. I was playing my Playstation 3 the other day for a bout 5 hours straight and the system still felt luke warm like it was an hour into playing

Ive noticed that when the weather outside is hot and my room isn't being air condition the ps3 fan does run but when its cool/cold outside and inside the fan doesn't run at all. this is my experience with it.

65nm cell in PS3?

Not really necessary as they are pretty quiet to start with.

everything is still 90nm sony is not going to produce cell any more toshiba or ibm or a dif company is going to produce cell and instead of using 65nm prosesos they will go rite to the 45nm proses that will probly been in aroung 2 years or earler the graphics prosesor will probly instead of going to 45nm prosors go to 55nm prosesors

The initial production models from Japan had a better quality fan with more blades. The chinese models are slightly louder. Honestly, the two are nearly identical in noise, and you have to sit in complete silence and focus your hearing on the unit to hear any anything.

I don't know about the rest of the people in this forum, but some audiophiles must have dog ears to have a legitimate complaint about the PS3 fan noise, because it is usually dead quiet.
