Default The Wicker Tree

Hey,

And yes the title is a follow up of the Wicker Man.

Quote:
"What most people don't realize is that when British Lion Films was sold out from under [the leadership of] Peter Snell, my film, The Wicker Man, was buried," begins writer-director Robin Hardy, who is hard at work on its long-awaited sequel, The Wicker Tree, shooting outside of Edinburgh in Scotland.

"It was a classic show business ploy for tax purposes, and my gut instinct was to distribute the film in the United States. So I contacted Roger Corman, who was enthusiastic, but he wasn't offering the $300,000 that [the consortium] could get as a tax shelter if they just dumped it. Soon after, Cinefantastique came out with 37 pages of photos, calling it the 'Citizen Kane of horror films.' A group at Tulane University in New Orleans decided to adopt The Wicker Man as a project, raising $5-6 million, and Christopher Lee offered to come to the United States and work with me on publicity. We went to film festivals all over the country, bicycling the print from city to city, getting 'boffo' kudos from Variety and other critics while, in London, those businessmen were still trying to bury it and discredit me and Peter Snell."

Ok, I know we are talking about the 1973 film here, but ...

"Not the bees!

How'd it get burned!!! How'd it get burned!!!

*Running up to a woman in a bear suit to punch the s*** out of her!*"

Wasn't a sequel announced like two years ago called; Cowboys for Christ? Did they retitle it?

EDIT:

Ah, should have read the article. It is Cowboys for Christ.

I think it was based on the book called Cowboys for Christ. It seemed they renamed it, Just checked IMDB they gave it the Cowboys poster, but the title was the The Wicker Tree.

Here is a Link.

I remember seeing the original after I saw the remake with Nicolas Cage and surprised how much nudity was in the original. I was laughing my a** off at it. But, none the less, Christopher Lee is a total bada** for a man in his late 80's.

Yeah, the library copy I had checked out was two discs. I watched whatever cut was on the first disc and that was it.

I wanted to bring this thread back up because I am actually excited to see this. Yes, completely gone is the subtlety of the original but none the less, it can't be worse than the Nicolas "just give me the check" Cage remake right??? Right??

Resurrecting this thread since I saw a trailer for it while watching TV last night. I probably won't see it, despite my username, but I'm curious as to others' thoughts on it. Hopefully, this movie will generate enough interest to get The Wicker Man (1973) released on blu in the US.
