Warner Bros The Wicker Man (2006)

The Wicker Man Blu-ray

The Wicker Man Blu-ray Review

Watched it last night and wanted to confirm that the PQ was awesome, really really good. I dont think I ever saw one piece of grain

However, something that was strage to me, its the unrated version, which I believe is the only one on blu-ray.

It says on the front "contains alternate ending not seen in theaters"

well all be damn if it doesnt contain the original!!

I mean shit, I never seen the movie period, you'd think they would include the original ending as well, atleast in the extras... Id like to know the original ending is without renting the reg dvd~!

As far as topic discussion goes, besides the obvious of me informing you it has great PQ... is that, Are there any other Blu's that take you for a swerve like this? Anything in particular that just made you think WHY? The hell did they do that!??

Not to ruin it for you...
[Show spoiler]but he dies!!

Unrelated.. if you liked the movie at all check out the one from the 70's. More believable.

Well yeah, I saw that one, thats the ending it shows, it doesnt show the original ending though, the one from theaters... which didnt make sense to methat it wasnt even in the extras (usually alternate endings are ALWAYS in the extras.)

Seriously, it's unbelievable how stupid some people can be when it comes to movies and spoilers.

I've avoided seeing the remake given the reviews and the general pointlessness of remaking a classic, but the original is a superb and genuinely scary movie. I'd strongly advise checking it out.

As for the spoiler - maybe this depends what side of the Atlantic you live one, but over here, everybody knows the ending of the Wicker Man (the clue is in the title - it even has a still of it on the DVD cover!), even if they haven't seen it, same as they know the ending of King Kong.

Oh, as for your question, maybe The Prestige. It's a good one that causes a lot of debate (b/c of what happens) and Memento is another one. The Usual Suspects is probably along that line. Maybe, to a certain extent, Gothika or The Manchurian Candidate or Swordfish or Total Recall?

Post The Wicker Man Blu-ray

A couple of days ago, I rented the Nic Cage version of The Wicker Man on DVD. From start to finish, it was - hands down - the worst piece of crap I have ever seen in my entire life! Man, was I ever so glad that I didn't buy the damn movie! But I have to ask, who here on Blu-ray.com has actually bought The Wicker Man on Blu-ray and do you regret ever buying it? Although I'm 100% sure that the average person would regret ever buying it, let alone renting the movie!

I own it and regret it. By far the worst movie I ever bought. I got it in a BOGO deal a long time ago, watched it once and never will again.

As a fan of the original I followed this one closely, and knew what a pile of crap it was right away and safely avoided it.

Possibly the worst remake ever; so bad it's funny (in places)...

Never seen the remake but the original is one my guilty pleasures. I have the one in the wooden box. The scene with Britt Eklund doing her little dance is worth the price alone.

I have to agree there.
As far as the spoiler. Yeah that pretty much ruins the movie. This is not as well known a movie as it is in the UK. Knowing
[Show spoiler]what happens to the guy
kind ruins the impact of the final segment. Speaking of which are we ever going to see a Bluray release for the original ?

Either way if you are not sure you should use spoiler tags. Nothings worse than spoiling a great movie for someone. There is no way they can experience that movie fresh again once ruined. Well at least experience it fresh with anything short of a lobotomy.

Does anyone know how the Japanese/Australian Sony release of this compares to the North American Warner release? I'm thinking about picking up this movie to compliment my Troll 2 blu ray.

The picture quality for the Warner release seems to be mediocre looking at the review.

Me too. Unfortunately more people I talk to know the Nic Cage version and haven't seen the original.
