Default The Hangover Part II Revew Thread (Use Spoiler Tags)

UPDATES:

Quote:
The Hangover is the sleeper hit of the summer, taking $105 million in just 10 days and outpacing recent comedy smashes Knocked Up and Wedding Crashers. A sequel has now been confirmed, so what can you expect from The Hangover 2?

The film’s director Todd Philips (Old School) said this week “We were thinking of sequel ideas when we were shooting, which sounds cocky, but we were doing it more because it was just fun to talk about ideas while hanging out on the set. Two weeks ago I was saying, ‘let’s see how it works out.’ Now that the movie has really connected, it’s something we’re doing for sure.”

He explained that shooting on ‘The Hangover 2′, or whatever it’s called, could begin as soon as next spring, and that all the main characters will return, “I wouldn’t do it unless all four guys were back,” he said. “I love The Hangover so much and I think we could crush it with the sequel. I’ve never had more fun making a movie, ever. Not that Old School wasn’t fun, but these guys were so hungry and ready to kick ass everyday. We just all gelled so well on this film.”

I heard that the sequel got greenlight after the initial test screenings, they went so well. When I heard the news I hadn't even heard of the movie yet. A few weeks or so later I started to see billboards, commercials, etc.

The first one is the most profitable movie of 2009. $265 milllion domestic with only $30 million production cost. Not surprised that a sequel is in the works.

That's pretty much the bottom line, it also made over $100 million in the foregin market so you know they want to strike while the iron is hot.

Loved the first one and I can't wait to see more.

Wonder if they're going back to Vegas or going to a new destination.

Also, glad to see the original cast is all back!

According to Dark Horizons the release date for The Hangover 2 is May 27, 2011. Phillips next film, Due Date, will be released June 4, 2010. It again stars Zach Galifanakis as well as Robert Downey Jr. and is about an expectant father (Downey Jr.) forced to take a road trip home with a slacker (Galifanakis) in order to make it to his child's birth.

My fear with the sequel is now the bar is set pretty high and if the concept of random discoveries after a night of drinking can be stretched into a sequel. As a standalone movie, it's great, but I guess I'll wait and see on this one. I HOPE it's good, but skeptical.

Is the sequel just going to be them blowing off work and going to Amsterdam for a week of insanity? Actually...

Personally, I thought the movie was funny but not equivalent to all the hype it is getting. I think people were just desperate to see another Old School film that it just got all that demographic going and ran to the bank with it.

I think Old School and in some regards even Road Trip were funnier on my first viewing. And, all the freakin commercials and trailers pretty much gave away all the funny parts so i sorta chuckled when they came through.

A sequel to this film is a bad idea. Take lightening in a bottle and leave it alone. Comedy sequels rarely succeed. And while I am guessing everyone will run to see it opening weekend and it will bank a huge payoff, overall it will be disappointing.

Yea people talk like this movie was histarical, but I think they're all caught up in the hype. It was good but I felt they could do much more. I thought probably the funniest part was the pictures at the end.

With the sequel it's not going to be easy to please just for the fact that it can't really be the same humor or it just feels blah because you've seen it already in the first. But of course there is a sequel as the movie made money so they know they make a lot on the next one no matter what. Well have to see as I still think a second might have potential from the first one, but they better go off on a different note then the first.

I said possibility because Scott Philips used this term:

Quote:

So that is why I said possibly.

I agree. The original movie was contrived enough, so it would be very difficult to have any freshness in a sequel. I enjoyed--though apparently less than some others did--but if it's just a retread in a different city then I don't think it will be worth watching.
