I`m going to buy my first TV and have about 2000$. What is the best buy for such money. I want a TV not less than 40`. It will be used for watching films, both DVD and Blu-ray and for playing X-box 360. I thought about Philips 42pfl4703, maybe smth better or even plasma??

Panasonic TC-P54G10 - Tiger Direct - $1648 shipped.
That's the best display you're going to find under $2K, bar none. I say that because the TC-P50V10 is still just over $2K pretty much everywhere. If the V10 creeps under $2K shipped, it will be the best display available under $2K. Still, some may choose the 54" G10 just to have a larger display, and that's a fine choice. |

New Panny Plasmas are fine for games after break-in. I have a "Game Mode".

Whatever fellas. No skin off my nose. I'm not the only one who says plasmas spank LCD. Throw a virtual rock and you'll hit a review that says the same.
As for 'babying' the tv during break in...if you'd rather settle for an inferior picture for the LIFE of your tv, and pay MORE for it, just because you can't wrap your brain around a couple weeks of overnight images...well, again...it's your money. |

OP, I have a couple of LCDs, but prefer Plasmas myself.... PQ should be the main concern, and the black levels of Plasmas $-to-$ can't be beat. I'm not sure what's in russia though...... but if you were looking at a Phillips 42", I would recommend trying to find a Panasonic, Samsung, or Sony within your price range at the 42" or up size.... regardless of what technology you go with (LCD/Plasma) That T.V. he linked is a 54", and although much above your budget, it's 12" larger than what you were looking for...... so perhaps look for that model in a smaller size ![]() |

![]() To the OP: Even though prices are higher in Russia, I would imagine they are comparably higher all around, meaning you can get a plasma with a better picture than an LCD for a lot less money. If the G10 is too expensive, look at the S10 models. You won't regret your purchase later. |

How's that? All I'm saying is is that I believe in my opinion that there aren't to many tv's that can spank my display and it's...wait for it...an LCD ![]() To the OP I personally believe your eyes will be the defining choice when it comes to your choice for a display happy hunting. ![]() |

Reviews are important because they allow a person who doesn't have a ton of time to do all the research themselves to make a smart, informed purchase. That's how I ended up with a Panasonic plasma...well, that, and I compared it to a Samsung LCD and saw that there really was no contest. |

I agree that reviews are important as to build quality, display etc. But what I'm trying to say is that most people are going to go with their gut and what they believe is the better set from what they see. Most people won't just buy a set based on reviews without seeing it perform. Now of course if money is not an issue than....

Lol...nice.
Since you bring up remotes, I'm kinda pissed Panasonic abandoned the universal remote...my 800u remote was, but the V10 stick is a one-trick pony. ![]() |
