Problem with downloading in background

For some reason the Download in Background feature doesn't work for me anymore from the Playstation Network. When selected I get a message indicating that I need to download software in order to get it to work. Has anyone had this problem. I did a search but couldn't find anything. Thanks in advance for your help.

Never heard of anything like that. If you queue up 20 items or something you have to download them before you can queue up more.

Yeah, it's odd but I originally noticed it the day when the Batman Arkham Asylum demo was released. It occurs when only attempting 1 download. Not sure what the reason is but I have to wait until the download completes before I can leave. My only other option is to cancel the download.

So the message i am getting is as follows:

"There is content that has not been installed.
You must first install the content to be able to perorm a background download."

Not sure what the issue is.

Sounds like a glitch. Did you cancel during the installation of something previously?

In any case, this is probably something to take up with Sony's tech support.

I got that after queuing up a bunch of stuff.

Do you have items you didn't install? (the little orbs on the XMB) Those count as downloads.

Try going to the power off on XMB and set it to download and shut off. It'll download/install everything and when it's off, you'll know it's done.

Well, I will have to give thanks to you Barnolde because I guess I had too many downloaded items that were not installed. Once I installed some of them, the Download in Background feature worked again. So this would be a good item to add to the quick tips thread.
