I really liked this movie alot. More so than Armageddon, but I'm weary of buying without some feedback first.

I'll go pick it up now, and give my 2 cents tonight. Target has it for 22.99 and I'll have BB price match it.

Here's a review:

Emmerich's Godzilla with space rocks instead of lizards. Plenty of apocalytpic carnage type things to be outrun on foot. Look, there's a young Jon Favreau.

If you're into this kind of thing, it looks and sounds great on BD.

Do you think BB will price match? I have never had any luck with them.

They did without checking. Once again they took my word for it.

I just viewed this tonight, and I have to say the movie itself holds up extremely well. Great flick.

The PQ was good, but not great. Maybe a 3.75/5 there.

The AQ seemed to be the biggest gap between dialogue and other sounds on any blu-ray I can remember viewing recently, but when it cranks it up, it's very powerful and crisp. 4.25/5 there.

I remember watching this theatrically and not being all that impressed with it as a film. I felt there were too many stories going on: Tea's character and parents, Leo and his family and girlfriend, astronaut's story and a whole list of minor characters. At times it felt a bit overwhelming to have an emotional investment into all these parallel stories.

Thank goodness for time and maturity.

I watched it for the first time in a long time and while I still didn't get with the teenage love story, I did connect to Tea's story and the parents dynamic and I also felt more connected to the astronauts and their story of sacrifice. No, I still prefer ARMAGEDDON and that was a much more fun thrill ride, but i'm better able to emotional connect now than then.

I was stunned with the picture quality. Sharpness, detail and color accuracy. Are we sure this was from the late 90's? I didn't expect it to look this good! Don't get me wrong, it doesn't look like a modern day film would so far as clarity but this is an excellent looking catalog title. I have to say that Paramount/Dreamworks did a stellar job with the video.

Audio-wise it's almost the same. It doesn't have the deepest extension, but it has a good amount of it and so far as the surround presence of the film, it's very good. I enjoyed the mix more than I expected to. The only fault I could say is that the inner detail isn't on the level of today's mixes but still and all i'm very impressed!

Thanks for the reviews and feedback, everyone.Looks as if this will be a safe bet to pick up on Blu-Ray.
I think it would be worth a spot in a small but growing collection.

Was in Walmart this morning and decided to pick it up for $19.96. I remember seeing this theatrically. Can't believe that was 11 years ago! This definitely has much more brains than Armageddon, but that's not a huge compliment to begin with. Unlike that film, this one at least attempted to make the audience feel that the planet being destroyed was a bad thing. Seemed like in Armageddon, impending doom was somehow going to be a fun, thrilling ride.
