I just rewired my HT room and used banana plugs for the first time. My question is, on my receiver they go in all the way but in my wall plate and speakers they don't. Is that normal ? Are they supposed to go all in ? You can see pics in my gallery that shows this. Thanks.

LOL...so they are supposed to go in all the way ? I pushed pretty firmly and they didn't. I'll try again.

Didn't know such a small question could degenerate so fast LOL...well I tried pushing them in a bit but I think it's as far as these will let me go. Receiver plugins are deep while the rest not so much. Thanks for all your responses...now some of you need to go take a cold shower

Well lately I rebuilt part of my HT (see pics in the gallery) and one of the things I did was to rewire from 14awg to 12awg with banana plugs. Now after I calibrated with MCACC the sound doesn't seem as loud as before. I used to play movies at -20 to -18 db's and today when I was testing stuff out, I had to put it at -14 and -13 db's and it didn't sound as earsplitting as before (which is a good thing). I'm just wondering if the sound difference comes from the rewiring or maybe it's the new riser I built with carpet and insulation...not sure. |

It's most likely a combination of all. It means you're gonna have to experiment a little more. I highly doubt the banana plugs are the cause.
I personally don't give sound levels much thought. As long as your AVR/AMP-PreAmp combo reproduces accurate sound, who cares what levels they are. If your AVR/Amp is straining at any level, then look into getting a more powerful unit. If not, a number is just a number... John |

A bit of Lubrication also helps when inserting them, LOL
