Default Banana plug question

I just rewired my HT room and used banana plugs for the first time. My question is, on my receiver they go in all the way but in my wall plate and speakers they don't. Is that normal ? Are they supposed to go all in ? You can see pics in my gallery that shows this. Thanks.

Sometimes there can be quite a bit resistance when inserting the male plug into the female recepticle (don't go there...ok ). Try applying a little more pressure.

LOL...so they are supposed to go in all the way ? I pushed pretty firmly and they didn't. I'll try again.

I'm not sure if they are supposed to go in all the way as I haven't tried many varying kinds of connections. It is entirely possible that they are seated correctly. One way to find out is to play some music and see if you notice anything strange.

Is the female receptacle as deep as the male banana is long? Otherwise it'll bottom out and won't go all the way in.

Trust me. I'm familiar with this problem.

Seriously though, and I just rememebred this. I had a difficult time with the banana plugs into my receiver. It took me several tries before they were seated properly.

there are different kinds of banana plugs, and there are different kinds of receptacles to receive them.

as long as its connected firmly, i wouldnt worry about it.

Sorry for degenerating the thread on an honest question, but it's saturday and I thought some "light-hearted" fun would get a few laughs.

Did you play any music or a movie? How does it sound?

LOL it's all good my friend. I'm in no way shape or form a prude. Love humour of all kinds.

Well lately I rebuilt part of my HT (see pics in the gallery) and one of the things I did was to rewire from 14awg to 12awg with banana plugs. Now after I calibrated with MCACC the sound doesn't seem as loud as before. I used to play movies at -20 to -18 db's and today when I was testing stuff out, I had to put it at -14 and -13 db's and it didn't sound as earsplitting as before (which is a good thing). I'm just wondering if the sound difference comes from the rewiring or maybe it's the new riser I built with carpet and insulation...not sure.

It's most likely a combination of all. It means you're gonna have to experiment a little more. I highly doubt the banana plugs are the cause.

I personally don't give sound levels much thought. As long as your AVR/AMP-PreAmp combo reproduces accurate sound, who cares what levels they are. If your AVR/Amp is straining at any level, then look into getting a more powerful unit. If not, a number is just a number...

A bit of Lubrication also helps when inserting them, LOL

Thanks John, I know what you mean. The sound is still good and I would even go as far as saying better because I felt like I had too much high end before. Actually I sold some speakers this morning and had a couple come in to audition them and they almost wet there pants over the sound. I was just scratching my head at the volume issue is all. The SC-05 is plenty powerful for that room.
