Default What has to happen before HD DVD fanboys say that Blu-ray has won?

It will probably take Toshiba releasing a Blu-Ray player (with it in stores so they can confirm with their own eyes) and distributing photos to Press Agencies of mass amounts of their HD-DVD players stocks being crushed under bulldozers.

Even then ...

They'll say "DVD is good enough" and quietly purchase a Blu Ray player.

Ohhh. They will never admit defeat to themselves, specially the ones that frequent this forum posing as Blu-Ray fans. Somehow HD DVD wins every week, and has better PQ Yeah sure...check out Universal's latest mishap with Knocked up.

very close but i think what will have to happen is for the hd dvd studios to activate the chip inside all hd dvd discs and players that make them spotaniously combust( its true amir told me )

Until there's nothing new getting released on HD-DVD they will never acknowledge defeat.

And WHEN that happens you will see words like "injustice" and "not fair" along with many swear words spilling freely from the mouths of the HD-DVD zealots.

There will also be a big spike in Kleenex sales, so I'd suggest we all invest in some stock...

I'm a little more optimistic.

I think once they lose their last exclusive studio, the press will call it officially over and they'll concede...with some swearing.

When something like this comes out in the news...

I don't even think this will help the situation.

I am with a bunch of the rest of you on this subject...they will most likely never say that they lost. I have a feeling, though, that they will probably buy a combo drive because some company out there will probably see a niche to continue supplying combo drives for HD-DVD enthusiasts. I know they are mutated Blu-ray players, but it will not sound as bad to HD-DUD supporters.

you forget "I can still play the HD DVDs I own on the player I own, so it is not dead yet" and even if no studio or manufacturer supports it any more it will most likely be followed by some by "HD DVD has some thing up its sleeve and just you wait and see"

I'm not trying to stir the pot here, but what is all this good news for Blu-Ray you speak of? Did I miss an announcement of a sub $300 BD player? Profile 1.1 players are shipping? Where is it?

I haven't seen anything earth shattering anywhere for either camp since the paramount thing... Cedia and IFA were both huge bombs IMO as far as news pertaining to anything in this format war.

Read some of the news on this forum. An Indie film studio that was hd-dud, now adds Blu. An indepdendent home theatre organization endorses Blu, etc etc etc. Pay attention.

I have been paying attention... That stuff means nothing to the average consumer.

The stuff that is important is movie and hardware releases. I could care less if a group of HDM geeks someplace held a poll and decided they like blu-ray over hd dvd. And the Indie studio? Pfft.. They're still making HD DVD's, so that's a non-event.

Educate me... Where is all the good news that would make me want to declare blu-ray the winner.

The "fanboys" will never say, that Blu-ray has won (same vice versa i think ) Some kind of myth about foul play will be constructed and repeated for the next 20 years, saying that by unfair means the winning format has cheated itself to come out on top.

Imho the market will say, when a format (Blu-ray/HD DVD/whatever) has won, when/if any format has reached a marketshare around 20% to 30% of the total home-video market and the other format stays at ~ 2% in some obscure niche it will find.
