That's what I'm thinking, and if you listen to the AVSers no Blu player will have a price drop before Christmas. They are practically wetting themselves over there.

BTW love this:

..................... huahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
and they often call it under $200?????
I agree.... "to sheep baa" player is better choice, but with addition of some dollar, you'll get a BD player. I would opt for BD player

this just goes to show the profit margins are not very large for retail for HD DVD
COMPARED TO BLU-RAY..thats exactly what HD DVD deserves for not sticking with the 1080p market line. Blu-Ray has Stuck to that 1080p Market line, just think if Blu-Ray would have put out a 1080i. the price of 1080i players would have been in the same low ball priceing of HD DVD yes it would have been a little more but not by much. but i am glad THE BDA stuck to the 1080p players

i aim to please...

i think the price point shows how much toshiba are not making/subsidising the 1080i tightwad player.

HD DVD - the Look and Sound of very low profit margins...

Absolutely hilarious! So much for that $199 player... nobody will buy this POS.
Not that Toshiba is much better, but Venturer, give me a break!

Default Venturer HD DVD player on for sale NOW on Target.com!

Sorry, im on the triple and i don't have the ability to link this. However, target.com has but the venturer hd dvd player of for sale at a price of $249. intersting that target is the first B&M store of my knowledge to get these things in. how do you guys think this thing is going to sell/preform. you gotta figure venturer isn't going to issue a lot of firmware updates, so what if it has problems reading combo discs, the buyers might be screwed for months. and just to confirm the validity all you have to do is go to target.com search hd dvd and its about 8 down.

well, technically target.com is not a B&M store... remember that the true B&M targets will be selling ONLY bluray players with the exception of the HDDUD CrapBOX addon

Thumbs down

WHO would buy such a inferior player?

-no 1080p playback
-no TrueHD, DTS MA playback
-no upconverting DVDs to 1080p
-no HDM 1.3
-no 24p playback

A HD player wich can not even play correct and FULL HD , wow!

serious why is the VENTURER player called a "high definition player" ?? in my eyes there are regular DVD player wich have better technic than this player.

from AVS:

Its 1080i and 720p.

But for most people 1080i will look as good as 1080p.
what a joke

Oh, I'm sure they'll be less than that because they will be open box returns sitting around collecting dust. Let the HD fanboys have this one -- they've earned it.
