Lastest firmware needed for PS3 for Fox releases - Blu-ray Forum

F4 Silver Surfer and Day After Tomorrow. It has been confirmed one will have audio dropouts on these titles if your player doesn't have the latest firmware.

You will get a warning screen when you load these BDs on the PS3. They will proceed to play but you'll note the dropouts continually.

your ps3 should tell you to update automatically... i don't see why there's any need for alarm

There is zero reason to not have the latest FW if you have a PS3. You can download it at the library and save it to a USB thumb drive if you don't have internet access.

I'm sure there are a decent number of folks who have not done the update. Just letting them know if they encounter a problem.

Sad but true,

My neighbor has a PS3 hooked up to a HDTV with composite cable. I have a spare PS3 component cable but he knows he's right.

He buys Blu Ray which is good but then he's got no clue and I know it's got 1.5 for FW.

When 2.0FW comes out I'm going to update his machine by hook or by crook I tell ya.

While we are on the topic 2.60 firmware is out for the Sony BDP-S300. Updated mine last night. POTC 1 and 2 seem to load faster, and menu choices in general are snappier. Like having a new player all over again.

Your neighbor probably has not encountered any problems playing any BD up to this point. He will as more titles are released in the future including these.

Yeah, it's just too bad that all of those people without a PS3 have to wait for a Firmware update to play the titles. Poor Samsung owners that have to sit through the Firmware update process just to watch a new disc. I love Blu-Ray, but it's stuff like this that just gives the HD-DVD fanboys more fuel for the fire.

I notice some people with PS3s mention load times for POTC. I was all ready to wait, but the rotating coin graphic only lasted a couple of seconds. Maybe I'm crazy but is that considered long?

You do know that HD-DVD players get firmware updates also? Folks need to learn to download the firmware updates as they become available.

When I put Tiger Woods 08 in for the first time, it said I needed an update and the disc did it for me. Did it put 1.93 on there or do I need to download from the computer?

1.93 came out Sept 13 so I doubt it's 1.93.

To check what version of the FW you have goto "Settings" then down to "System Settings" and under System Information If should tell you what version you have.

You can download 1.93 from the Sony web site at:
http://www.us.playstation.com/ps3/ne...304&LINK=PS3SU

On the right is link for the download it about 120 MB copy it to a USB drive. You HAVE to put it in the following directory (YES UPPER CASE).

updated last night online and it was 1.93

If there's a newer one, it's not online yet through the PS3.

I guess I have a question. I know Fox hasn't released some titles in awhile. What is different about the audio track on this title versus their others that it is necessary to do a firmware upgrade?

The video played fine on the PS3 without an upgrade, so it appeared to at least.
