Default Do you keep dvds you've replaced with BD's?

When you upgrade from a dvd you already have to the Blu-ray version do you keep the original dvd?

For me if it has more extras than the BD (which unfortunately often seems the case on catalogue titles) then I'll keep it. If the BD trumps the dvd in extras as well as PQ/AQ then the dvd (so far) gets relegated to the loft!. I haven't actually parted with any yet, though space is becoming a big problem in my home

I have given quite a few of my titles away to friends and co-workers, but I'm in no hurry to get rid of them. Eventually, most will be gone, I'm sure.

I categorised them into three piles:

- those I've upgraded to Blu and want to sell
- those I intend to upgrade to Blu and want to sell
- those I've upgraded/intend to upgrade to Blu and don't think I'll get any money off so I just give them away

It's worked pretty well so far, managed to sell off a couple of DVDs for a few bucks, all in all it gives me money to buy other movies.
Some of the movies or editions I knew I wouldn't be able to sell (such as a Danish bi-pack of the first two The Fast and the Furious movies, or other Danish DVDs) I've just given to friends who haven't upgraded to Blu.

I have a bunch of extra blu-ray double cases, so if its a single disc blu ray, I'll just change it to the 2 disc case and put the dvd with it, otherwise if its a 2 disc blu ray, then I'll just give the dvd away.

I've kept a few, such as GHOSTBUSTERS, which have extras that are missing from the BDs. Otherwise I get rid of them.

I also will only consider keeping the old DVD if it has extras that are not on the blu-ray. The only ones for me so far have been Sleeping Beauty and Snow White.

Same, or charity.

The rare ones I do keep are the DVDs whose supplements (that I like) that haven't entirely been ported over to the new blu-ray release.
The sooner I get rid of them the more shelf space I'll have for the blus.

Yeah, I'd be in the same train of thought as most of you (regarding extras), but I realised how little I actually watched them and couldn't care less about them. I used to be all about extras, but that was merely an excuse to have the prettier edition of the movie (a simple amaray is quite boring). Barebone releases aren't that much of a bother to me nowadays, I just try not to pay too much for them.

that's what I do most of the time-- some dvd's I keep in a paper cd sleeve
and stick them inside the blu-ray case-- figuring that maybe I might watch them on a portable player or a different TV in the house with a dvd player...
(though I have yet to do this!)

I have piled up a load of my DVDs that I intend to flog as one joblot on Ebay. They are either DVDs that have now been replaced by the superior format or are DVDs that I intend to upgrade in the near future. The only DVDs that I plan to keep on both formats are ones with unique packaging (like The Dark Knight or Iron Man "Mask" cases).

I always trade them in at local video shops for credit towards new blu rays, which is awesome because I am essentially recycling them for a newer, better product. 5 dvds traded in = one new blu for me! Considering I had 300 plus dvd's, most of which I never watch anymore, this works very well in my favor.

I never keep old versions of movies I have update either because it seems mundane to me, regardless of extras.

I kept Superman because it was a multiple disc set with tons of extras that I enjoyed. All others have been given away, or more often, sold at work.

I don't want to take up the space, and I also don't want to be reminded of how much money I have spent on the same movies over the years.

I get rid of DVDs once their blu counterpart is announced. No exceptions.

Yes space is an issue, plus the money made from selling DVDs helped me buy more blu-rays. If I were someone who wanted to sell their DVDs, I would do it NOW before DVD's value plummets below $1 used.
