Default Watchmen Maximum Movie Mode still doesn't work properly

I upgraded to the new firmware and I can now play the Watchmen Maximum Movie Mode, BUT when it prompts to press ENTER to leave the film to view stills I press ENTER and it skips right back to the movie. I can't get to the stills to see them.

Anyone else have this issue?

Also on the disc 1 menu there is an "X" at the far right when I click on it nothing happens, is it suppose to do something?

Thanks for your help

Default BD-1600 Firmware Upgrade Breaks DVD's?

Hi,

I just installed a new BD-1600. Initially DVD's worked fine. I then attached a network cable to setup Netflix and I was notified that new firmware was available. So I updated. Everything worked fine, expect for DVD's which are now displayed in a green hued "box" about 1/2 the size of the actual TV display. UGH! I read that may be I need to update the firmware twice, so I did but it made no difference... Blue-Ray discs, and Netflix work great. Just DVD's no longer function...

Anybody else have this problem?

Thanks for any insight.

Thumbs up

Nope. DVDs still work fine on mine. So far. I have a devil of a time playing almost ALL of the Blu-rays I rent from the local Video Warehouse. I've stopped renting them from there.

Now, if I want to watch a BR disc, I've got to buy it. Might try the Blockbuster that's further away. Might be worth it to be able to watch BRs at home that I don't want to actually buy.

As far as issues go, most Blu-rays I buy play beautifully. Watchmen has only one hiccup in it so far that I've noticed: sometime around 1:45 into the movie. Maybe it has something to do with the transfer from the first to second layer? 1:45 is about halfway through that 3:06 monster of a movie!! it breaks up in a few places (just horizontal lines of off-color pixels flashing randomly) but they are only right around that spot and NOTHING like the flickering garbage and horrible popping snapping sounds so prevalent on rental BRs. Those are unwatchable. Even ones that don't seem to have any scratches or smudges on them.

As for the X on the menu, nothing happens on mine. I thought it might be something linked to a BD-Live feature (that I don't have; no wireless adapter) or something else. Those extras in the Maximum Movie Mode play just fine. All features of this movie look sharper than sharp. Just amazing.

Default USB drive and bookmarks

Can anyone help me out here? I have a USB drive plugged into the back of my 1600 and whenever I add a bookmark during a movie, when the movie allows it, the bookmark does not get saved once the player is stopped and/or shut off. My 1500 also has a USB drive plugged into it but it will "remember"/store the bookmark that I've created even after the player has been shut off. Is this a known issue with the 1600, or is my player an isolated inncident? Is there something I should be doing on the setup menu for the player to get it to store the information? Any info would be great!!

Why do people continue to buy Samsung Blu-ray players????
They have the worst customer service in the industry, and are the slowest to correct player problems.
I will never again buy Samsuck ANYTHING!

Because, unlike the PS3, Samsung's even work with Blu-ray titles that have 50hz content. Samsung are better than the PS3 in this respect. More players should follow Samsung's (and Oppo and some other player's) lead. Support the players that support the Blu-ray specification and play the most Blu-ray titles.

Anyone else experiencing playback issues with Monsters, Inc. on their 1600? Here's what I wrote on another thread:

I was wondering if anyone has experienced playback issues with Monsters, Inc.? I initially bought this movie and played it and about 4-5 times while the movie is playing it will pause for no reason. The 1st time is when Mike and Sully are about to cross the road at the beginning of the film and just as the "big" monster squawks like a chicken and the sign changes to "walk" it pauses, and the next time is when the group of monsters come out onto the scare floor for the 1st time it happens again. It then happens 2 or 3 more times throughout the movie. I returned my copy and exchanged it for another thinking I must have a bad disc, but the new copy does the exact same thing. Is this possibly a firmware problem associated with my player? I've never experienced this with any of my other 200+ BR titles that I own, BTW.

I've tried playing the BR on my 1500 and there is no "freezing"/pausing of the movie with that player. I've wrote an email to Samsung in hopes that this is just a firmware issue and that they look into it.

Because the price was great when I bought it and this player has been perfect for me. As for the mkv playability? I'm not even sure if it was added to the 1600 model or not, i've been trying to find out. This is my first Blu-ray player and it's excellent.

I cannot play "The Mask", "Basic Instinct" (seems all lionsgate film) in Bd-p1600, even with the most recent 2.0.5 firmware. Anyone has the same issue?

i have the same problems with monster inc, and the same freezing spots, i also have freexing with Up

i also have a 1500 and so far no freezing on that player, although i have just tried Up on it, but the 1600 gets freezes

the end of monsters inc was horrible as far as the freezing

im wondering if by some chance if this is related to having the player connected to the internet, my 1600 is but my 1500 isnt

Neither my 1500 or 1600 is connected to the internet, so I'd wager to guess that's not the issue. I also have the movie Up, and it freezes only one time, using the 1600, toward the end of the movie just after he dumps all the stuff out of the house to lighten it to take back off again. The 1500 suffers no effects of freezing with Up just as it is not affected with Monsters, Inc.

i disconnected my 1600 from the internet and i still got freeziong issues on monsters

with Up i get a freeze at the beginning sometimes during the film ootage of the falls itll freeze, if it freezes theres its good until the part where he dumps all the stuff from the house, if it doesnt freeze at the falls footage, itll freeze right after Up is written in the sky, and then again after ellie goes to jump out the window after visiting him with a broken arm, then again when he dumps the stuff from the house

Default Poor warranty policy

When you hook it up via wireless the unit will find that is has a new firmware update and like most technology you update it. So I did and than the thing indicated it could not read the disk. I called Samsung Canada and they said since I up dated the firmware without a service person telling me to, that voided my warranty. I discuss with his manager and he said the same thing I asked to talk to his manager and he said he did not have one, I said everyone is service has a manager. SO BE WARNED ABOUT BUYING ANY SAMSUNG PRODUCTS. If you follow the on screen upgrades you are on your own. Even page 55 states to update the the product on occasion, I have worked in technology for 25 years and never have I heard of such a policy. i will never buy a Samsung product again.

Wow I didn't really expect this thread turning out to be a big complaint. Talk about coming here filled with nostalgia.
