Default Samsung BD-P1600

Hello everyone.
I'm a new member and a new user of Blu-ray and whole big TV thing.
So i got BD-P1600 yesterday (by sales man recomendation) and just realized that my unit was manufactured 01/31/09 (28 days ago).
Well one of the new futures on this player is Wireless connection to internet.
I have wireless and everything, BUT! TO connect you have to have SPECIAL only samsung antenna. ANd they havent come up with it yet. There are for TV but i dont know if they work with BD player.
Does anyone have any info on those things? Some suggestions.
Thanks guys!

Nice, it came out 2-4 days ago so people who have it are Rare. No information about the antenna. You'll also need a 1gb USB Drive for BDLive...

lol that's stupid, it should just do wireless from within the box like a wireless network on a laptop for example.

If it's anything like BD Live, don't expect to much from it. BD Live is a joke.

Any problems with discs yet? Over at AVS, I see people are already reporting it can't play catalog titles and samsung says they have to send it in or get non-existent firmware off the website.

Wow this player JUST came out...seriously take a breather. Samsung will get it worked out. As long as it works with the majority of the movies I don't see how this product is any different than any of the other bluray players released by the different companies.

I'm looking forward to the 3600 or 4600 myself but I did see the 1600 yesteray at Best Buy.

I'm wondering how the the 1600 does with DVDs though? I still buy them since not every movie I want on Bluray is out on Bluray yet and I highly doubt they'll come out anytime soon. The studios seem focused on either bs cult titles, new releases, obvious big hit titles in recent years, and a few classics.

So for now I'm just buying DVDs and getting new releases on Bluray that I like.

First off I'll admit, I hate samsung after how I got treated on the 1400/1500 for service that was under warranty... Luckily I was within my return window at the stores.

Anways, I don't think we should cut samsung some slack. It's not like they are new to blu-ray. heck if anyone, they should have the bugs works out, especially for catalog titles. I want to like samsung, they have innovative features, but they still struggle with basic features.

over at avs, a user is reporting that the player can't play 5 out of 6 discs he tried. He took it back and got another one, it's working ok from what I read. So possibly some more quality control issues similar to the 1500 on launch.

As a 1200 owner, I'll tell you you can look forward to searching for a firmware update, either stringing a 100 ft ethernet cable to a hub or burning a CD, updating the firmware with fingers crossed it doesn't brick the thing, all so you can simply play whatever disc you just purchased - while the wife looks on with increasing annoyance as to why you didn't just get a regular damn DVD!

Angry BD-P1600 Issues

Add me to the list of frustrated Samsung BD-P1600 blue ray player owners. I make the purchase and I'm all excited to enjoy the wireless network feature only to find out that I don't own the Samsung wireless lan adapter that is necessary to make this work (sold separately). It states in the manual that the model number of the correct adapter is Model# WIS09ABGN. This must be the latest model for '09 and not available yet because I can't even google it and get any responses. You can find Model# WIS08BG2X available at just about any electronics store for about $50 (I'm going out on a limb here and guessing this is the '08 model). So my question is this: Does anybody know if the '08 model adapter will work or if we will have to wait for the '09 to come out?

Please help!!!

I got response from Samsung help, here it is.

The LAN adapter may not be release yet. This is a very new product that we do not have a lot of information on. The WIS08BG2X is for the TV's so it most likely will not work with the blue ray player. I would give it some time for the adapter to be released.

The capability to play the MAJORITY of movies is all subjective because it will all depend on the titles YOU enjoy and want to play.
Anyway, Panasonic & Sony usually have updates for their players within 1-2 weeks or sometimes even before the title is released when an issue has been found with a title.
Samsung takes 2-12 weeks or even longer(BD-P1200 - waited almost 6 months for the last update and it still can't play new releases) to make an update available & sometimes break the ability to play titles that worked on previous versions for FW.

Why doesnt Samsung wait until they have their s@#% together before releasing a new player! It has wi fi capability, but only after we produce the special adapter youll need somewhere in the near future. Why dont they get all that together before they release the player! My guess is $$$.

If it is wireless ready, It should just come with at screw-on antenna!!!!

Does it have an ethernet port? I don't do wireless as it is slower and subject to drop-outs and use by the neighbors.

The 1500 does Netflix streaming too doesn't it?

HD Streaming as well?

I'm just curious cuz I'm thinking of getting it for my mom (I found a great deal on it and it's worked excellently for my dad so far).

Meanwhile I'm waiting for the 3600 or the 4600 to drop.

And yes the 1600 does have an ethernet port I believe.

You are thinking of the BD-P2500 / P2550. The 1500 does not do Netflix streaming.
