Default Why is Carriers not announced for Blu-ray???

Are we still living in the age of DVD? Why are companies still pushing DVD releases only.. if you are a fan of art-house cinema then it is my opinion that you are a more avid movie-goer, thus raising the probability from maybe to most likely with you owning a blu-ray player by now.. Carriers is a shining example of a film that i believe would sell better on the newer format. Assuming larger chains get only a few copies anyway, wouldn't it be smarter to market your indy film with the smaller selection? At least it'd be placed up front with the rest of the new blurays at Bestbuy rather than the bargain bin...

Probably because no one has heard of it, it was barely released in the U.S. on a limited run, and it probably costs more money to release titles on blu-ray — not as many replicating facilities, discs most likely cost more than sdvd.

Who is even the distributor of this thing?

It's Paramount Vantage (aka Paramount Pictures). It got a very very limited released by September but about 20 people saw it, so....

Stephen King raved about this film in his Entertainment Weekly Column.

When some films are not business profit success, it makes no sense for the studio to release it on the higher most sophisticated format. Because like the above user stated, its more investment for the studio to put them out. Namely as this film was totally unrecognized, the Blu-ray release would just follow the same path. Kinda like the same thing that happened to Blindness, How To Lose Friends and Alienate People, Cheri, etc...for which got no Blu-ray release. Roughly because it had no audience and was only gone to make between 3-4 million in total sale receipts. Making the studio loose money.

I agree.

I think the problem with this movie was that they didn't even try with it's theatrical release and now they are trying even less with the home video release.

From BD: After being dumped in theaters this past September, the Chris Pine (Star Trek) thriller Carriers is coming to rental DVD on December 8, 2009 from Paramount Home Entertainment. A full DVD release is yet to be announced, but is expected in 4 to 6 weeks after the release.

I don't understand why they would release a rental only DVD version if they have plans to release it properly 4 to 6 weeks later. Sounds like they are just trying to spend as little money as possible on this, sending out 1 or 2 copies to rental stores. I bet when it finally does get a wide DVD release (if ever) it will be nearly impossible to find in a store and most likely overpriced everywhere else.

Same here. I thought it looked great but never saw it in my area. I would buy it.

Should be getting the DVD over the weekend. I didn't realize it came out on DVD last month. So sad this movie has gone unnoticed.

There's a German Blu-ray coming out. I don't know if it's region locked. Hope that helps.

Probably old news but the German Blu-ray is region locked, but contains the R-Rated (Unrated?) Version. I'm happy with the German release. The movie is pretty good and looks great in HD.

Recently saw Carriers for the first time, on the old DVD. Decent thriller; I liked the post apocalyptic aspect, and it was nice to see a film like this that wasn't just another 'zombie' movie.

That being said, though it seemed obvious that the bug was completely fatal to everyone that caught this, the one person they found in the car seemed to be "alive"...so it was unclear if he died & "came back to life", or just wasn't completely dead yet.

[Show spoiler]Very sad scenes when the gf character was pushed out of the car...and all because she contracted the bug because she had been trying to save the infected kid in a previous scene. And, it wasn't surprising at all that the one character you thought would survive (CP) ending up getting sick - and had to be taken out.

I wouldn't mind seeing the film on Blu - but, the PQ on the DVD was more than adequate - especially for an older DVD.
