I'm having the same issues with UP and they are repeatable at the exact same spots on my BDP1600 (2.05). It freezes at the 1:07 mark and the 1:14:14 mark, exactly as the poster said above. I exchanged my first copy of the movie thinking it was the disc, and when I first tried the replacement it didn't do it. However, the subsequent plays of the new copy all have had the same freezing at the same points.

I think I've played 2 other BluRay movies (One Week and I Love You Man) and neither of those had any problems. Samsung better fix this quick as UP is surely going to be one of the best-selling Blu-Ray movies of the Christmas season, and the BDP1600 is probably going to be one of the best-selling players.

can anyone tell me if they are having issues with star trek

im on 2.05 firmware,
I had the previous firmware (2.01 I believe) when I bought Star Trek and it froze up at the beginning of the movie. Updated to version 2.05 and it still freezes. Other people on the Star Trek thread has been stating that their 1600 has also been freezing up with this movie.

People need to send emails to Samsung to let them know what is going on. I did and they are not admitting it's a firmware issue. They even went as far as telling me I needed to send it in for repair!!! I own over 200 BR movies and all of them play flawlessly on the 1600 except Monsters, Inc., Up, and Star Trek (2009). If more people would send them emails or call them to let them know what's going on, a new firmware could happen a lot faster - IMO. Oh, and I also believe the freezing of the player is happening when the layers change while the movie is playing - IMO.

BTW - these 3 movies play flawlessly on my 1500. Thought you all might want to know that.

I'm on the 2.4 firmware and Star Trek played flawlessly. The special features disc played well although I didn't see every single extra yet but I was able to navigate through it with ease.

Ur not refering to the 1600 here are you? Considering the latest firmware for the 1600 is 2.05. Are you refering to the 1500 by chance?

Shadow i emailed them this morning and have not yet gotten a reply. I have seen a few other threads for differnet players and people stated they had a bad sic exchanged it and it was fine, however thats fine for that particular disc, but you and i and several others are having issues with the same three disc, what are the chances we all got bad discs of the same movies?

I also have a 1500 and Up has played fine on that one, no freezes, i havent tried monsters inc on there yet, and i played the beginning of star trek on there the other day and it played fine, i havent tried the whole movie yet, but i had issues in the beginngin on star trek on the 1600, also chapter 7 on star trek was huge mess on the 1600 im going to try that in the 1500 tonight,

best buy has an lg bd370 for sale today only for 129.99, if everyitng plays fine tonight on the 1500 i will repalce the 1600 with the lg today

Yeah I'm referring to the 1600. I didn't upgrade to the 2.05. firmware that came out a few weeks ago because I read that it was only to fix the issue of a certain disc. I'm running on the firmware that came out before that which I think it is the 2.04.

when i first had issues with Up i downgraded to 2.04 and that didnt fix my issue so i put 2.05 back on hoping for a better installtion of it, and i still have issues, i think its just buggy for some people, now i have issues with Up, monsters inc, and star trek. just hard to believe i could have gotten 3 bad discs in a row and that its not a firmware issue

I played chpater 7 of star trek in my 1500 and it played fine, put it bak in my 1600 and it didnt oplay well at all. i have decided to replace this unit with an lg, hopefully samsung will get their act together

It took them a couple days to respond back to me when I emailed them. Also, I haven't tried exchanging Star Trek but I did exchange Monsters, Inc. (see post #111) and that didn't work. I'd say it's not a bad since it plays on the 1500.

I haven't done any firmware updates on my 1600 and Star Trek played fine.

When the time comes that I *must* do an update, will I have to update each firmware release or will the latest contain everything from prior releases?

HI all,

New to the forums, about 7 months ago i purchased a p1600. I went to use it for the first time and it wouldn't work .. so i updated the firmware to the latest and i am trying to play The proposal and Ghosts of the girlfriend past and it skips ..

the best way i can describe it is if you were trying to watch a movie with a dialup modem ..... the disk's look great no scratches (they are Blockbuster movies) sometimes it seem like the blue ray player freezes up (progresses bar in the bottom right stops moving)

Anyone have issues like this with there BR? This is my first one .... so far not a good experience

I'm officially done with Samsung. I've had my BD-1600 for 6 months and suddenly, it wont read blus. Still plays netflix and DVDs, but Blus are a bust. Up, Monsters Inc, Star Trek, The Reader, The Third Man...tried all of them and it says the disc is unplayable. My advice to anyone looking at buying this player is stay away.

TheCaptain..same exact thing started happening to my 1600. Bought it about 6 months ago, worked great on BR and DVD's, then BR's started misbehaving..they would sputter and freeze at odd moments. Then about a week ago it started refusing any BR disc. I've tried multiple ones from netflix, and just tried the new Start Trek, no go. Just tries to read it and then "This disc can not be played". Have the latest firmware. DVD's still play fine. Guess I'll have to call or email them. BR players are getting so cheap now, though it's tempting to just throw this one in the trash and go buy a sony or LG.

I was wondering if anyone has used the "season play" feature on LOST discs? I know there is no harddrive, but if I use a usb stick it should be able to remember my profile and place in the season, right?

Anyway, I can't get the feature to work, everytime I turn off the power, I lose my season play profile.

Any help would be appreaciated.

Thanks.

i recently got rid of my 1600, but i can tell you thatthe usb stick is soley for bd live,

also somewhere along the line, the internal memory has gotten lost. my 1600 would not remember bookmarks after the player was shut of, so featjures like season play are not going to work correctly. i dont know if one of the many firmware updates disabled to internal memory or what, but it was quite annoying as i would use the bookmark feature quite a bit

I bought the Samsung WIS09ABGN wireless LinkStick in March 2009 for $82 plus $10 S&H. Had a difficult time connecting to my wireless network, installation manual was useless, customer help line even more useless (the first tech I spoke to didn't even know this was a Samsung product). After 6 months, the LinkStick stopped working. Samsung tells me it has a 30 day warranty and there is nothing they can do about it. 30 days warranty on an $80 part?? Tells me Samsung doesn't stand by their product. Oh - by the way, Samsung did tell me I could hard wire my BluRay player to download Net Flix. How helpful.

I've watched UP on my 1600 all the way through twice and haven't had any problems. Its only like 3 weeks old though and I'm not sure what firmware it has.
