Default Panny G10 & Phosphur Trails..

Im looking into getting a Panny 50inch G10 but have looked at reviews n youtube videos showing Phosphors trails with this model of the TV.....Although the people who r experiencing it seem to not care as much its not sumthing i think i can deal with...Anyone out with a G10 experiencing this issue? I hope its not a wide spread issue....

nothing ive noticed...but the g10 is only good if you are going to use the thx mode...if you wont...get the s1...also if you are going to use it...look into getting the g15 which is only 2" thick...same tv just thinner but in all honesty i wouldnt buy the g10 again...id save the money and get an s1 and go bigger

look at the sears ad for a great deal on the 54 s1...or step up to the v series

Is that the only difference the THX mode?

No the G10 has Viera cast capability, S1 has no vga connection.

You're using a horrible Youtube video on an LCD display (assumably as most pc displays are) to determine phosphor trails?

Even assuming these folks are being honest I'll just say that I have that set and have never seen any such thing.

no...viera cast and vga as stated above are the other two addons..once again personally i find useless...viera cast lags a ton and really doesnt offer anything special..my 46 g10 was replaced by a 54 s1...g10 is now in my gym room and while the tv itself is awesome..the extra features are going to waste along with the money i spent on them

also remember that the s1 can achieve a picture better than the g10 with a proper calibration

you may also want to step it up to the v10 which is far superior

tcp54s1 at sears for $990...you cant go wrong ( a little side note, the 54 is 54.1 inches while the 50 is 49.6 so you actually getting over 4 inches more screen)
i also notice you currently have a 46"..if size is a main reason your upgrading, my rule of thumb is to always go one size bigger than you think you want...i started with the 46...then went to a 50, and now i returned the 50 for the 54, all within a 5 month period...and im much much happier...this of course is my personal experience and opinion and not intended to offend the g10 owners

I'm curious where you're getting your information on the S1 vs. the G10 and the V10. The S1 should be able to achieve the SAME picture with calibration that the G10 can, and the V10 outside of a few more menu tweaks and the (admittedly nice) 96hz feature, is pretty much the same set- I'm not sure I'd go with "far superior".

I have the 50" G10 and I have never seen this either,, Great Pic. I also had the S-1 50" 1st , returned it for the G-10 for a cheaper price than the S-1 so I got the THX for free...LOL

Same here as well. I LOVE my G10, the only thing I would like to have is the 96hz but the price difference was more then I was willing to spend. I get ZERO phospher trails and the picture is gorgeous.

not sure what your questioning as your response confirms everything i said...in case it was misinterpreted, i meant the s1 WITH calibration will be better than the g10 thx mode...if you calibrate both then yes they will be the same
the v10 is slimmer, one sheet panel, does handle 24p properly and have many more color adjustments while giving an overall better picture than either the g10 or s1...personally i feel that having these extra features is a big step up...others might not......but lets get things straight, i wouldnt pay the extra cost for the v10 either..it is a bit pricey and personally i dont like the styling

The way you phrased it originally made it sound like the s1 was better. I personally think the whole "slim" argument at this point is silly. HDTV's are all slim enough in my opinion- I don't watch the side of the TV! The G10 series technically "does handle 24p properly" it's just that it's refresh rate of 48hz is distracting to many people (myself included). The color settings and etc are thus far in my opinion pretty negligible, so to me the one thing that sets the v10 apart is the 96hz refresh in 24p mode. It's a really nice feature but for me it wasn't $500 nice. At this point though they're all falling in price and are pretty competitive.

Some people like the 48hz mode "flicker" and beleive it's purpose is to recreate an exact theater like experiece.

And I agree with what eclimax said about going bigger. I bought a 46pz800, and in Canada so I paid more for it than you did for your 54, and all I can think about everytime I watch it is "I wish I went bigger". It's a great tv, and I arranged my seating to compensate for the 46 inch size, but 54 would of been much better. Although, if I could have traded my 46pz800 for a larger pz85 I probably wouldn't have because I make too much use out of the THX mode, which on the 800 series produces really accurate colours and imo perfect luminosity, and I can't afford a pro calibration.

Agreed, except for 'Black Extension'. At zero (equal to the lower-end sets) it's great, but at +2, it's fantastic. It'll go higher, but anything past 2 IMO hides too much dark detail. It really is a wonderful adjustment.

Beyond that, yeah, the 96Hz is nice...I use 48Hz as much as 96 at night, though. Depends on the movie.

Also, for me, the one-sheet was a huge deal. When off, it makes the display look 100x more classy hanging on the wall than a standard bezel-style tv, imo. It's got an infinity-pool quality that draws stares from anyone coming in my house.

I think the phosphur trail is something not everyone will notice, kind of like the rainbows with DLP's.
