This looks like a happy place for a couple of questions, since I know folks here will give me honest advice....
SWMBO advised today that our son should have a 360 for his BD. Apparently the PS3, Wii and old-style Xbox are not enough and it's vital that he play Halo 3. I've temporarily stalled her with facts and data about the huge Xbox failure rates.
Thanks, in advance, for your help ![]() |

2) HS has pretty much fixed the 3 ring of death issue, plus the warrenty is extended too. 3) Here is the backwards compatibility list: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/back...ygameslist.htm hope that was helpful. |

You hit the nail square on the head! Cost. Sony is already losing the most money per unit in the history of gaming consoles. Surely, we can give them a break on the HDMI cable. Plus, they don't know how far away your console will be from the device port. Some would use it and others wouldn't. That would be wasted money to Sony. Therefore just let the consumer choose the cable they want.

Every time a Halo game comes out, I get suckered into buying it and playing it, only to regret it almost instantly. There is NO precision in that game, and little skill. Convince your son to upgrade the pc and if he wants to play a quality FPS he could go with: Haze Unreal Tournament 3 Call of Duty 4 Team Fortress 2 All of which are released over the next month or so, and all of which look to be infinitely better than Halo 3. Oh, I haven't had much luck with playing old xbox games on my 360 to be honest. Bout 50-50 success rate. Now Gears of War on the other hand... now THAT is a game worth buying a 360 for! |

1) PS3 multiports plus PC versions of Halo, Gears, Bioshock = custom built xbox360 without the online fees and red-ring-of-death or any other hassles of xbox360. Any game worth having on the xbox360 is mostly going multiport or is available on the PC that almost everyone has already. If you own a PS3 first, there is no desire to buy an xbox360. If you start off with an xbox360, you'll most likely feel the need for a PS3 at some point.
2) XBOX360 is the most expensive console this generation. Add up the cost to buy a standalone bluray player (most likely a PS3 if you like games) because almost all hi-definition movies will be out on bluray. Or add up the cost of an standalone HD-DVD player and / or Bluray player. Now add all the costs including the games, the movies, the accessories, the online gaming fees. Unless people don't want hi-defintion movies, they'll be forced to buy one or both of these hi-definition devices because the 360 lacks them. This is going way out of hand. The 360 is a defective machine. It's loud. It lacks features. It's the most expensive console right now (sneakily expensive, albeit). It's loud. It's ugly. It's HD-DVD add on has the worse picture quality on earth with no movies at all. After three years of existences, it has only three good titles at most out of a sea of junk games. And any games worth having on the 360 are either coming to the PS3, is already on the PS3, or will be available on anyone's computer. And it's graphics aren't even that great compared to GT5, MGS4, KILLZONE2, or even Motorstorm. In fact, because most multiplatform developers focus on the 360 because it has a larger customer base at the moment, developers are capping off this generation's graphical potential because the 360 obvioulsy has its limitations. THE 360 IS A LIABILITY TO ALL GAMERS THIS GENERATION. NO ONE SHOULD BE SUPPORTING THIS SYSTEM. For instance, Ninja Gaiden Sigma is barely a remake port of an old xbox first gen game. It's made by a small group of kids with limited resources and absolutely zero experience on the PS3. And yet, the graphics are even better in some cases to the XBOX360's Ninja Gaiden 2, which is headed by Itagaki himself and his full blown team with more than a decade of experience with the xbox format. Ninja Gaiden 2 is basically a third to fourth generation title. And yet it looks no better than a first gen title on the PS3. And this is my point. Had the xbox360 not existed and the developers were forced to make Ninja Gaiden 2 for the PS3 exclusively, we'd see some sort of graphical breakthrough. But because the xbox360 does exists, graphics have been capped off for all gamers. Last edited by secret; 10-09-2007 at 10:34 AM. |

Keep in mind this is for his kid, and no parent wants to deal with taking care of the shipping and handling of a broken product several times within a three-year period. Honestly, if a parent wants to get grey hair really early, purchase the kid a 360. That way when it breaks, the parent gets to go to the store to be told to send it directly to the manufacture, then have to find where the box was stored and wrap everything up and then be out of pocket for the shipping. After this, the parent can listen to the kid ***** for the next couple of months until the returned 360 delivery slip appears on the doorstep, which will probably require a trip to the post office. After this, the parent can listen to the kid ***** about how it's not the same and there are scratches on this unit, etc. |

i have all three consoles.
i regret buying an xbox 360. it was the nifty green/orange color limited edition that made me do it. it looks cool. can't even hook up an external hd. i also have the wii. its fun. but.. the ps3 is the only system i feel good about having spent my dollars on. this fall/spring game releases and continued blu-ray title expansion will even more so make me love my ps3. its only just beginning... the rest are fading. People who dont mind sending in their 360s remind me of people who dont mind boiling their HDDVD.
Products should work reliably for many years. Its a shame customers of MS have gotten used to such shoddy products (360, HDDVD, windows vista) |

I do not believe this is a far argument. For me it is like asking, '85 Bears or '04 USC Trojans. Sure they are both good/great at what they do (I have never had a problem with my Xbox 360), but they are on different levels. A PS3 is a better machine, it does more, it runs at a higher resolution, it has a blu-ray player. I am not that big of a gamer so I don't really care that much.

So... If the question is which console is better today, vs. which MIGHT be better tomorrow...
Sounds like you are saying 360 is better. Escpecially if you are a gamer who does not care about or want Blu-ray movies. Is that correct? |
