Weird, when my 360 had a problem, Microsoft sent me a box, with an included shipping label. My 360 was back in my hands two weeks after I put it in the hands of UPS to send it back to MS, and it seemed to be in fine, scratch-free shape. No out of pocket expense on my part. All I lost was some time with the console. They even threw in a month of Xbox Live Gold to try to make up for the time that I was unable to access the service. I guess that my experience was just out of the ordinary and you aren't disseminating misinformation.
