Default Optoma HD66 - First 3D home theatre/gaming projector

don't know if it was posted here, found it in AVS below is the link for the announcement

http://www.hometoys.com/news_detail.php?id=16783064

720P but it's a good sign that 3D doesn't have to be expensive.

Will they have a 1080p model with a V-stretch mode and then I'm all in then (If the price is right). Sounds good for it's price though.

I'm sure there will be 3D 1080p projectors by next year. They will be HDMI 1.4 which is not widely available so once that gets into the pipeline we'll probably start seeing them.

I can't wait for some good 3d projectors, i've already started saving (well, I had before I bought my current projector, which as odd as that sounds I had no intention on waiting what could be years to buy a new one [my old one was more or less dead]).

I however highly hop that the ps3 is all I shall need (can't see why not). Speaking of which as the video basically needs two images (one for each eye), wont that mean most of these films will have many of the problems lower bitrate films will have hhnoes:

I have just sold my Optoma HD65 and bought the HD66. Now can anyone tell me if this will be compatible with 3D Blu-ray or even SKY 3D. This does not mean to much to me as I stil have a decent projector and it only cost me £75 to upgrade, but would like to know if I can view 3D material when it becomes available.

Cheers

Jay

Looks like passive glasses...not within the BD standard.

It's ok, it uses Active Shutter Glasses using DLP Link, and I believe it's been passes for use on 3D Blu-Ray.

Well although it uses active shutter glasses, this the Optoma HD66 is not compatible with 3D Blu-ray or 3D Broadcasts, only with a possible firmware update, or hardware add on in the future.

meanwhile:
http://www.optomausa.com/3d_faq.asp
^for all the questions about this projector's 3-D capabilities. i don't have a GeForce 3D Vision thing but ATI has also presented their own version of it:
http://3dvision-blog.com/ati-has-ann...e-at-gdc-2010/

so either way it's going to require active shutter solution. & it's also 720p for this particular projector. that's fine by me =P.

So as it stands.I have the Sony BDP-S570 BD Player(with the 3D Firmware Update).

So if I purchased the Optoma HD66 could I connect it thru the HDMI Ports and cable on both components. Then if I added glasses and a movie. Will its video be in 720p resolution 3D.

Or is the HD66 not 3D ready.
Will it not be capable of producing a 3D Image out of the box(if there is a Blu Ray Player and the proper HDMI ver1.4 cables)

I have the Optoma HD66. I tried the BDP-S570 Bluray player and it will not work. In fact, currently no bluray players will work with the hd66. Not even if you can manually select 720p at 120hz in the bluray player's settings. You must have an Nvidia 3d vision ready pc with the Cyberlink PowerDVD software (3d Bluray Capable) or Arcsoft's TotalMedia Theatre With 3d Plugin.

http://www.arcsoft.com/en-us/softwar...BUYNOW#submenu

http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-visi...uirements.html

PC Requirements
- 3d Ready Graphics Card
- Dual Core Processor
- Bluray Drive
- Atleast 2GB Memory
- Totalmedia theatre or PowerDVD with 3d plugin

Here is an email from a tru3d.com representative. I asked him what 3d bluray players will work with the Optoma HD66.

None. Its doesn't matter if the 3D Blu-Ray player supports manual selection of 720p 120Hz, your projector will not pass the proper HDCP validation required for 3D Blu-Ray playback unless you use a PC with 3D Blu-Ray playback software.

I hope this helps. I bought the HD66 and a 3d bluray player before I found out they wouldn't work together.

Nevermind. The DLP Link 3d glasses WILL NOT WORK. You must have the Nvidia 3d vision glasses. AND if you have a Optoma HD66 that was manufactured before August 2010, before it will work properly with Nvidia 3d vision, you will have to send it to Optoma so they can update the firmware on the unit.

Default HD66 solution coming soon

Over at the AVS Forum, member HTFAN007 posted correspondence between himself and Optoma re: the HD66 and 3D Blu-ray:

Question for Optoma Marketing:

Are there plans for a converter adapter that will make the3D Ready projectors such as the HD66 compatible with 3D Blu Ray Discs and broadcast 3d content such as ESPN3d without needing a PC? If so, when will this device be ready for marketing? Thanks in advance for your response.

Their Reply:

Dear John-

Yes we will be announcing a 3D converter box at CEDIA in late September that will be available in late December or early January 2011.

Again more details to come when product is announced on September 23rd.

Thanks-

Kristin

This is some of the Best News I have heard in all of 2010.
I am very appreciative for your inquiry.(as well as posting the answers to your questions).

It would be wonderful if the 3D converter box did not add too much to the Optoma's Price.

Default optoma hd66

Just to clarify – I didn't ask the question but I copied the info from another board and brought it here because I was sure it would be of interest.

I currently am using an Optoma HD65 projector and it's the best $600 I ever spent. Yes, I know it is only a 720p projector (and I can see the difference if I really dig into the picture and look), but the picture & colors are wonderful and it is BIG.

When the HD66 was announced, I bought one right away using a coupon at Dell and have kept it sealed up in the box waiting for a 3D Blu-Ray solution – so word of the converter box is some of the best news of 2010 for me too!

I would guess the price of the converter would be in line with the Mitsubishi 3DA-1 Signal Converter – and that is priced at about $100.00.

The other question I have is the emitter / glasses solution. I've seen that Sony sells it's emitter separately – but I believe it needs to be plugged into a Bravia TV?

I'd imagine we'll have answer to all of these questions pretty soon. This will certainly be the most affordable 3D solution out there for most – and I'd bet it will be especially popular for ps3 gamers.

Its going to be a Great and Exciting Time when Optoma introduces the adapter for the HD66.

Would make for a Wonderful Christmas to find its compatible with the current crop of 3D AVR's and 3D Blu-Ray Players.
