Question HDD Space Error???? How to fix??

I recently bought Dollhouse Season 1. When I went to put the disc inside to play, an Error message came up and it said "Not Enough Hard Disk Space To Play Movie." I deleted some of my saved game data, and the disc was able to play just fine. I am aware that there is a BD Utility Data that has some of the movies I've watched listed under there. My question is: Can I safely delete the BD Utility Data for the movies that are listed under there? If not, What is the best way to fix this? I do not want to have to deal with this error again.

Thoughts?

If I upgrade my HD, how does the PS3 OS get loaded onto the new HD?

Back up all your saves first. All the PS3 OS data gets loaded on because the HDD needs to be formated by the PS3.

The PS3 OS itself is actually stored within the hardware cache and not on the HDD. Therefore, it makes the HDD upgrade possible with extreme ease. Innovative design decision on Sony's part for user friendliness.

I do not really play many games, I am not worried about my save files. My PSN account will still be active.

Yes you can delete the BD Utility Data. I did it once not thinking of it, becuase I thought what was this I don't need this on here. Then, awhile later I went and re watched a movie I had deleted from the utility and it just reloaded it back into the utility. So, if you don't want to upgrade your hdd then just delete the files.

This is absolutely correct. I dump BD data all the time. I don't see the point in keeping it especially since most of the BD's I get are rentals.

As far as I can tell, the only affect it has is like the man said... it takes longer to load the data on the disc the next time you watch it.

If you do upgrade be careful. I'm not sure about saves from a system to the same system. But I had a 60Gb that kept burning through lasers, backed up everything and bought an 80Gb. Went very smooth for the most part but some games wouldn't let me pick up where I left off. Killzone being the one that sticks out.. I was getting close to beating it on elite and it wouldn't let me transfer my save from one to another.

Some games don't let you transfer saved game files. We have a thread somewhere that has a list.

I think I will just go ahead and delete the BD data for now. It is cheaper then upgrading.

I am actually not sure. I think it just helps to load the movie faster the next time you watch it. Not all BD disc's load utility data onto the PS3.

BD Data saved in the BD Data Utility folder on the XMB is almost always BD-Live related content. If not, then it may be trailer data for before the disc's main menu.

BD Data has nothing to do with helping the disc load faster unless, as I stated above, it has to do with the studio manipulating the trailers shown before the main menu loads. Then, and only then, will it help load the disc faster since the newest trailers are already accessible from the HDD. Otherwise, the BD Data has to do with your BD-Live account information (so you don't have to remember them all) as well as any BD-Live content or software updates to help ensure smooth sailing with the internet based extra features.

I must has missed it above where you mentioned what the BD data does. If I understand you right, it is just loading the trailers? (I do not use BD Live at all).

Honestly, if the only thing you do on your PS3 is play movies, just delete the extra stuff on there. Unless there is other stuff you are storing (like movie files or tons of music) I don't see any reason to upgrade even if you only had 40GB.

Just delete all the BD data on your drive. For 99% of people there is no reason to keep any of it.
