Default Weinstein Wants Miramax Name Back.

Jeez, Harvey, give it up.

http://www.deadline.com/hollywood/we...-miramax-back/

Quote:
I've learned from London sources that Harvey Weinstein wants to buy back the Miramax name from Disney and is already making moves towards that goal. The company that put him on the map is now defunct at the Mouse House, so this should be easier to accomplish than before. In fact, Harv just scooped up 2 Miramax executives Peter Lawson and Lucas Webb. The two bothers founded MIramax in 1979; it combined the first names of their parents -- Max and Miriam. So obviously there's a strong emotional tie. The bros sold Miramax to Disney in 1993, but left behind the name and the library when they walked away because of a money feud with Michael Eisner and started the The Weinstein Company in 2005. They've never been able to duplicate their success at Miramax.
Epic facepalm right there.

Please for the love of God leave Miramax with Disney. I'm enjoying the quality high defintion releases Disney puts on bluray. If Weinstein gets it back there wont even be bluray releases.

That's why we rely on Alliance to give us BD-25; 2.35 cropped 1.78 HDTV broadcasts of Mirimax films on Blu-ray.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I read the article as they're only interested in buying the name. I'd assume the existing film catalog would stay with Disney.

If thats the case then they can have the name. Disney does great things with their blurays.

What are the Weinstein's gonna do if they get Miramax back, besides still not release any of the movies made under their banner?

After the cosmic screw ups that Weinstein has done with their own company, they don't have the financial capital to buy any of the film catalog from Disney.

Except for the four martial arts films (Hero / Iron Monkey / The Legend of Drunken Master / Zatôichi) they released under the label not having lossless audio for the original language track. Which seems more in tune with the Weinstein's Dragon Dynasty label.

Weinstein doesn't own Dragon Dynasty any more. Vivendi Visual Entertainment owns it since Harvey needed the money. If Harvey still had Dragon Dynasty, we wouldn't have 36th Chambers of Shaolin, The Killer, and The Protector (Tom-Yum-Goong) coming to Blu-ray in the two to three months on Blu-ray. Plus, Dragon Dynasty was going South of the boarder since they lost the rights to a bunch of Fortune Star films like Police Story and such.

Bob Iger is willing to sell the Miramax name for 1.5 billion. Am I the only one not seeing the Weinsteins coming up with that much cash, like, ever.

And that 1.5 billion is only for the brand name, not even the catalog. Which I'm glad for, since Disney really delivers the high quality releases.

So in conclusion, suck on that Weinsteins.

Kind of a mean tactic but Disney didn't get where they are by being subtle so yay for them I guess.

Sweet. I can't wait for them to make Copland 2.... only to have it sit on the shelf for five years after it's completed and then have them quietly release it into a handful of theaters before dumping it onto DVD... and then blaming everyone who made it for its failure.
