Since Miramax is finally out of business (causing great celebration among Asian film fans worldwide), I wonder how that leaves the status of their blu-ray releases. In other words, should everyone be rushing out to buy "Hero" and "Drunken Master II" (etc.) while they still can?

Well, Hero has been released in other countries in Europe all ready, way before the U.S. release. Zatoichi is out in England. However, The Legend of Drunken Master and Iron Monkey hasn't been released outside the U.S. on Blu-ray.

That's a good question. But I will wait on Legend of Drunken Master until I can see an uncut OAR version. That might not be for years, though.

The closing of Miramax's doors means nothing bad for Blu-ray releases. Their library is owned by Disney. We all have nothing to worry about.

The latest rumor is that Summit, yes the studio that delivered us the *ahem* groundbreaking Twilight films, wants to buy the Miramax name AND the entire film library. Which worries me, since it's become apparant that Disney doesn't even care about the Miramax films - they'd sell it for a little less than 1 billion. Which means that all the films are going away from Disney whether we like it or not - they're only waiting for a high enough bid.

Miramax is not "out of business" The division has simply been absorbed into the whole (Like New Line with WB).

The reason why Disney will sell the catalog "so cheap", is that video revenue is way down from that end. In fact most people are saying they're asking too much for it, and a more realistic price is $5-600million

Why would you be worried? summit always does excellent transfers and im sure they'll get more catalogs out in the U.S, like good will hunting, faster than disney would ever have.

The uncut version of Drunken Master II is owned by Warner Bros. They haven't released a true uncut version of the film on DVD.

The miramax version was crap since it was only the english dub and is cut. Miramax does have the best picture quality of the film though.
