Default Panasonic TH-42PZ77U

Anyone have this TV or heard anything about it? It's a 42" 1080p plasma. Amazon has it for $1478 including shipping and tax. I'm thinkin about gettin this instead of spending close to 5k on the Pioneer 60". The TV is just for my bedroom.

hey.. I bought the TH-42PX75U about a month ago... its 720p.. and does not have the anti-glaire coating... I love it.. its absolutely amazing. In my opinion you don't need 1080p for a 42" unless you are sitting really close. If you will be about 8 feet away, your eyes cant even see the difference. And for me the anti-glare was useless cause i can control the light in my room. Frys has this tv for 899.99 with free shipping... I paid 999 a month ago. But if you do decide on the 1080p... go for it.. especially panasonic... everywhere i hear they make the best plasmas.... next to pioneer.

Thanks for the advice! My bedroom is pretty tiny and the TV's only going to be about 6 feet away so the "1080p" will be slightly visible. The Panasonic's in Best Buy always look really nice, so I think I might do it. I'm glad your enjoying your purchase.

My dad recently got the 720p 42", and it's terrific. And it's definitely a good TV. Someone else said it, you have to be like 5 feet or closer to even start to notice the difference between 720 and 1080. And that's IF you even have a 1080p source (i.e. Blu-ray).

If you are going to do a lot of BLU-RAY watching go with a display that displays 1080P/24 at multiplies of the original frame. I am thinking about placing a Pioneer 60 inch Elite Plasma in my bedroom. Some people turn their bedroom into a home theater room.
Also you do not have to go with a high-end Pioneer to enjoy 1080P/24.
The Pioneer PDP-5010FD can be purchased as low as $2,929.

http://www.pricerunner.com/pl/2-991611/TVs/Pioneer-PDP-5010FD-Compare-Prices?q=pdp-5010fd

The cheapest LCD display on the market that displays 1080P/24 correctly is the Sony KDL-40XBR4 for around $2016.
http://www.pricerunner.com/pl/2-971933/TVs/Sony-KDL-40XBR4-Compare-Prices?q=kdl-40xbr4

If you have the room the cheapest display that displays 1080P/24 correctly is the Sony KDS-50A3000 SXRD rear projector for under $1600. SXRD are better quality then LCD and some Plasma’s and have a 2.5ms response time. Every few years you need to change a light bulb but they produce a nice quality picture.

A projector isn't a bad idea...Do you know if there's a way to find out how far the project has to be placed back from the screen to produce a certain size image?

This 50 inch rear projector is pictured here

Now a Front Projector that does 1080P/24 correctly costs around $3,000. Sony’s last year model VPL-VW50 is $3095. You need a dark room to watch anything. A front projector will not look good in a lighted room. It is mounted on the ceiling. The distance can be adjusted and needs to be several meters (feet) away.

On page 14 of the installation manual of the Sony projector it goes into details about how many feet away the installation needs to be for screen size
http://www.sonystyle.com/wcsstore/SonyStyleStorefrontAssetStore/pdf/VPLVW50.pdf

On a front projector you need not only a dark room but also a stereo system or surround system to hear audio. Also a screen needs to be selected. This type of setup will not work in all bedrooms.

fellas, you cannot see the 1080p difference on 42in unless you are like 1-2 feet away. I was watching 1080p on the 58in panny (yess hooked up with blu-ray ) and i was only standing 8 feet and i could barely see the difference. Although that low price on amazon does look pretty tempting .

PS. I have the TH42PX75 myself.

I have a TH-42PX60U and it does run 1080p. Key is it only runs it through HDMI. I can run PS1 and PS2 games upscaled to 1080p and BRs and PS3 games in full 1080p.

Yet if I try to run my 360 in 1080p it doesn't work since I am running it on components. So with 360 I have to run games in 1080i since I don't have an elite.

Thanks! I'm gonna get it. I think it's stupid not to get 1080p these days. Are companies still making 720p HDTV's anyway?
