Default Girlfriend and Blu-ray

Figured kinda a newbie discussion. Girlfriend not much for technology, so bought her Wizard of Oz, her favorite movie. Well we watched it and she was blown away, she owns like 9 diff copies. Then said hey well let me put UP in so you can see what it really looks like, blown away again. Think I might have converted her, she won't join forum but as she can say there is a difference with movies.

Welcome to the Blu-Ray Community! Glad that your GF sees the difference
It's great when you can convert others to HD.

Welcome!

Indeed, that is the best. When I first picked up a BD player and a few titles, I think my GF was almost as excited (if not more) than I was (and I was stoked!) That is a HUGE bonus, really eases the tension when you show up at home with 20 new movies under your arm, especially if there are a few titles in there for her

Yeah main thing, I do not think she realized how bright everything was. Kept telling her were not even really watching it on a super nice tv. So I think combo of nice tv and good audio system she will be blown away.

It's awesome to make a convert. I've been at the movie theater with my wife and had hear lean over and say how much she wants to see the movie at home where she could REALLY enjoy it.

Haha! That's awesome!

My GF recently said something similar, we were talking about going to see Shutter Island this past weekend, and it was her decision to wait for it to come out on BD so we could also 'really enjoy it.' We like having a few Martini's during movie night, and they don't serve them at the theater.

We really wanted to see that, and then my wife read the book, and we decided to pass. My sister saw it and doesn't recommend it. Just based on the commercials I was able to figure out the basics of what was going on.

Yeah, I have heard a few of the same things about the movie. (Unfortunately). I was really looking forward to it (we both were for that matter), and probably will still check it out once it gets released on BD, but I am not as hopeful as I once was that I would *love* it.

Yeah you guys are right, when it costs almost $30 dollars to go to the movie including a drink and something small to eat, almost whats the point anymore. Rather watch it at my house and drink some beer and get something out of it, i.e. keeping the disc. Already trying to convince the girlfriend we need at least a 55 inch tv so we can watch sports, shows and movies. She's sorta buying the idea.

I don't go to the movies much unless it's a movie I have to see in the bigger screen. I mainly just buy my movies for $20 average price. That's like movie tickets for 2, and you own the movie which is the best part.

Now that movies are coming out faster on video. It's worth the 3-6 month wait.

Yeah it seems like four months has pretty much become the norm now and that's not too bad at all.

First of all welcome to the forums!!!
Yea, Macruz converted me to Blu-rays, got me going on the forum, and now here I am after midnight seeing what is happening. This is a great community and I am sure you will get along well with everyone. I hope your GF changes her mind and joins the forum as well, we can always use another lady around here.

Agreed about the expense of movies, I've actually cut down on theater viewing lately, it's like $12.50 for one ticket here in Manhattan! Unless it's something I really want to watch on the big screen like Avatar or a group thing w/ friends, but mostly I've been waiting for the comedy/chick flick type films to rent first.

Congrats on persuading your GF! Maybe show her the Hot Deals thread or read a movie review (Wizard of Oz) on this site and how PQ & AQ are rated too, might get her interested in joining the forums.

I converted my girl awhile ago. If we rent something, it's mostly bluray, unless it's not in.

I will put a dvd in and we get to watching and she will ask, "Is this bluray?"
I tell her "No" and she will say "Why not, I saw you standing in the bluray section"!!!!!

"The bluray version wasn't in honey"

Meh... I've bought my wife This Is It (that terrible Michael Jackson movie), Fame (that terrible remake), and The Wizard of Oz. She hasn't seemed impressed. In fact, she calls them DVDs and doesn't care about the difference.

The only movie that we watched where she said, "Wow, that looks good!" was Ratatouille.

Most females really don't care about Blu-rays or anything like that. It's just something that they don't really care about. They may tell you that they do to just make you happy because they know you're an enthusiast, but in all seriousness, they really could care less.

Yes, I am speaking in general.
