Always Sony for me. I've never had a problem with their products. I have had problems with many Samsung products though.

I'm having some image retention issues with my Samsung, but what's this about a buzz problem?

Might have to be a little more specific than that. What exactly is this "buzzing problem" that I haven't heard about?

Other than that, for LCDs I vote Sony for well-lit rooms, Samsung for darkened rooms. No experience with plasmas.

So you are saying that Samsung LDC's are good for dark rooms? The reason I ask is that LCD's are too bright for dark rooms. Do you have a Model number that you could refer to me

I was speaking generically. Most Samsung LCDs have the reflective screen, which can cause lots of issues with glare in well-lit rooms. Sony has the matte screen, so when I watch TV in the middle of the day it looks fantastic. However, as you noted, my Sony doesn't perform so well in a dark room (largely due to it being edge-lit). Edge-lit Samsungs also have the same issues, but I've read it's not as noticeable as Sony's. On my Sony I can turn down the backlight, which helps somewhat. But the trade-off is dark scenes get really hard to see.

I think ideally, in a darkened room, plasma would be the way to go (actually a projector would be best IMHO, but that's not practical for everyone ). But I have no experience with plasmas, so I only commented on what I've experienced first hand.

That is why they give you the "settings" menu to adjust to the room.

So far I'm very happy with all of my Sony products, so I voted "Sony".

What would you suggest to me

My HT room is in my basement in a dark room, I will play games and watch movies with this TV. The reason I added a Poll is that I was going to buy a Panny but due to latest problems I'm not sure anymore and I don't want to have IR burn in.

Edit: Seeing that Paany still leads this vote I can't understand why people are still suggestions them with the problems they have with the Black levels decreasing over time?

If you can find a back-lit LCD, this might be a good option for you. I don't have a specific model to recommend, but for a darkened room you would just lower the backlight to a comfortable level. Back-lit would keep from having the uneven black levels that most edge-lit sets suffer from. With a little research you could probably find one.

Sony stopped making plasma TV's in 2004.
I wouldn't recommend a Sony plasma, given how much the technology has improved since they last made one.

I would suggest either the best "XBR" model that you can afford, or one of the "Z" class. I haven't been following the very latest models though.

Of course these are LCDs not Plasmas.
