Default Moving movies from Windows PC to PS3?

Would like to put a few movies on the HDD of the PS3. What format does the movie need to be in for the PS3 to copy and play it? Thank You.

Avi and mp4 are your safe bets. Only some wmv files work well (if at all). Mpg is another safe bet.

If you have a router use PMS for everything.

If the PS3 will not support the file, just use the transcoder option and it will convert it on the fly. If you use the copy option it will copy it over as transcoded. The only format I have trouble with is MKV.

If you want to use USB sticks to carry the data across you will need to convert the files that are not native to the PS3. But as I said just about everything is compatible if you have the latest PS3 firmware.

Yea check out PS3 Media Server that was posted right before yours. You will just have to point to the dir on the PS3 that the music is stored on say C: Music etc.

If your having trouble with the PS3 Media Server connecting to your PS3 it prob is your Firewall and you can just turn it off and it should work.

I use it alot and everything I"ve tossed at it has worked. I am in the process of making a Media PC though but that's only because I stream some 15GB 1080p mkv files and once in awhile theres some hiccups and it's not the best for Fast forwarding but to Stream Music,Divx ,Xvid or smaller video files It ROCKS

I usually convert my movie files to MP4 with Xvid4PSP (don't let the name fool you, it has settings for PS3 optimized MP4's) and then transfer them using a 16GB USB stick

Sometimes I transfer avi or mp4 files with a USB stick, but 95% of the time I just flip on media server and play them straight from my PC seamlessly streamed onto my PS3. Don't even have to download a third party application if you set it up right.

I run Windows 7 Pro.

I converted a couple of movies today to mp4 and transferred them over with a USB stick. And it worked out great. Thanks for the help.
